Whether like it or not, owners of Digital Still SLR cameras have similar problems with computer users - the hardwares tend to phased out very rapidly & replaced with new models, while the ultimate goal of a full frame 35mm format with realistic prices, older models of Digicam may present some support issues - while I hope the creation of this Message Board provide some form of relief to exiting owners as well as those who may intend to invest into one of the used units as prices are more realistic as compared to many newer models. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Lastly, we can make use of this Board to learn from each other and share experience so as to improve our skill. As I don't have much time upkeeping as well as keeping up with so many new Digital SLRs that keep streaming up from the respective manufacturers; so, as for now, just treat this website as MIR's contribution to the Network for the photographic community. Lastly, please respect ownership of various brands and AVOID touching on sensitive topics (such as my brand is better than yours...). Hi Wong: I think what you mean is that the LCD does not show your picture until after you have taken it. This is normal for an SLR: until the moment of the exposure, the mirror and the shutter are blocking the CCD so there is nothing to create an image on the LCD screen. When you take the picture, the mirror swings up, then the shutter opens, and THEN there is an image that can be sent to the LCD for you to view. This is different from simpler "Point & Shoot" cameras that have no mirror or shutter, just an electronic switch to record the image that the CCD is constantly viewing.
There are a few SLRs that have added this "Live View" function. Olympus was the first, I believe it is now coming out on some Nikon cameras. Personally I think this feature is of very little value, but I grew up using SLRs, not digital Point & Shoots, so that's what I'm used to. I greatly dislike holding the camera out away from my face when taking a picture. Some people, obviously, think this is a nice feature to have.2. From : WYmei (yimmei@ttrb.com.my)

Dear Sir, A recent check on your latest DSLR Nikon cameras i.e. D40x and found that apart from capturing the pictures from the viewfinder, the LCD could not perform the same function. haha .. yeap ! Another possible scenario is, a Nikon D4000x which can deliver 20 megapixel which retails at the same current D40.. they will give you a 6 megapixel filmback and ask for the same price of a D40.4. From : Pin33 (nomail@nikonfan.ccom)

Looking at the photo at the mid section of that page on the disassembled Kodak 460 as guided, it is possible to have a interchangeable digital film back too, right ? I was offered with a Kodak DCS 460 and a Nikon E3 and don't know which is the better option for me. The 460 is more expensive as I read from your site it seems has a better spec (DCS 460 (460c, 460m) Width 27.6 mm x 18.4 mm, 3060 x 2036-pixels.). Question: I am not good at technical but can anyone refer here and tell me what is the mag. factor if a normal autofocus Nikkor is used and how can I calculate the multiplication i.e 100mm = ? in the digital format of the 460 ? The Kodak DCS-series Digital Still SLR section is very informative, I didn't know they sell so many Nikon-chassis modified bodies, it is a good history-tracking website. GREAT !

PROBLEM is, D40X only accept AFS-Nikkor lenses (or optimised to use those). That reduced the appeal and selection. A wide to tele is usable for your needs.AFS VR Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm f/4~5.6G IF-ED sounds like a good bet.8. From : dea1 (dwalker449@msn.com)

Q:- "i used to set @ 22". Nikon G-Nikkor will auto set the lens aperture to f/22 or f/32 for P (Programmed AE), S (Shutter Priority AE) - it depends on the individual lens minimum aperture but most mid price zoom lenses usually has f/22 So, I am not too sure what mode (P, A, S or M) you are using. Unless you know what you are doing (by gaining maximum depth of field) and you set the aperture to f/22 but that is NOT always the best idea to do so as shutter speed will drop to very slow for hand held shooting. There is NO rule what is the best aperture to use in taking a picture. Aperture affects depth of field and if permissible, depends on what degree of DOF you like to achieve and set the aperture accordingly based on usable shutter speed for handheld or use a steady support. BOTH Shutter speed and Aperture will have an direct effect on the picture: read this simple article (with some info on the DOF) by leo at:
