Some Selective Digital SLRs - Message Board/Guestbook

Whether like it or not, owners of Digital Still SLR cameras have similar problems with computer users - the hardwares tend to phased out very rapidly & replaced with new models, while the ultimate goal of a full frame 35mm format with realistic prices, older models of Digicam may present some support issues - while I hope the creation of this Message Board provide some form of relief to exiting owners as well as those who may intend to invest into one of the used units as prices are more realistic as compared to many newer models. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Lastly, we can make use of this Board to learn from each other and share experience so as to improve our skill. As I don't have much time upkeeping as well as keeping up with so many new Digital SLRs that keep streaming up from the respective manufacturers; so, as for now, just treat this website as MIR's contribution to the Network for the photographic community. Lastly, please respect ownership of various brands and AVOID touching on sensitive topics (such as my brand is better than yours...). Enjoy.

As this site is specifically created for this purpose - so, please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you. The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

Can older nikkor lenses be fitted to newer Nikon digital cameras

Never heard of it. At least technically, the diameter of the Nikkor/ Nikon mount won't fit a f/1.0 lens (probably Canon). As for the Digital SLR development for Kodak:

NOTICE OF DISCONTINUANCE
May 31, 2005
KODAK PROFESSIONAL DCS Pro SLR/n and SLR/c Digital Cameras

Kodak has discontinued production of the KODAK PROFESSIONAL DCS Pro SLR/n and DCS Pro SLR/c Digital Camera models. Camera sales will continue until current stocks are exhausted.

Kodak continues to expand its range of other digital cameras, as well as supply high-performance CMOS and CCD sensors to the professional imaging industry and LEAF Camera Backs for specialized high-end image capture applications.

Kodak will continue to supply service support and honor warranties for the DCS Pro SLR Digital Cameras until December 31, 2008.

BRILLIANT ENTRY, Sad exit. Number of pixels and business theory of living within the Canon/Nikon world don't always works in the trade.

Does anyone know about a Nikon/Kodak Model D-2 x 12 S/n 0414 is supposed to be #3 of 5 made for NASA? Has F.1 lens and 27.5 megapixel chip? Owner says its in the org packing box with all cables and attachments. Any idea what a fair price would be if for real? Or where i can find information about the camera for research? Thanks Dan.

Very impressive site !!! I'll bookmark this one for sure. I've been a Nikon user since my father introduced me to them in 1960 and they have always been my number 1 choice for fun and my business. The knowledge base on this web site is excellent, I'll be back. Keep up the good work and thank you. Fiat lux. Rick - Rick

Yeap. For those who may be owning both MF and AF Nikkor, the D200 seemingly is the best value DSLR with a Nikon label now. Like the F100 which based on the F80 film camera, it has most up-tp-date Nikon features one would expect them to be inside. Except for the price and the 10.xx megal pixels (I thought it should have been added with 1X from the D100) then it would be perfect for all the Nikon folks who want a camera to start with digital imaging.

Wait ? may be. Note: I have posted the same comment on the lenses forum.

Non Autofocus focus lenses with AI-, AI-S, or Series E Nikkor Or even AI modified-spec Nikkor for D200 was explained as below:- AF=Not possible; Manual Focus: POSSIBLE; M (with electronic Rangefinder as focus aid: works with lenses of maximum aperture of f/5.6 or faster.

Exposure Modes: Progam AE/Shutter Priority AE NOT possible; Aperture Priority AE and MANUAL are possible and If maximum aperture is specified using Non-CPU Lens Data option in shooting menu, aperture value will be displayed in viewfinder and control panel (biggest difference with other entry level DSLRs)

Metering: 3D Matrix Metering NOT possible; Color Matrix: Can be used only if lens focal length and maximum aperture are specified using Non-CPU Lens Data option in shooting menu. Use spot or center-weighted metering if desired results are not achieved in this color matrix mode. Using Spot and Center Weighted Metering: For improved precision, specify lens focal length and maximum aperture using Non-CPU Lens Data option in shooting menu.

Overall, Nikon just wants everyone to use the new AF Nikkor lenses as they provide the best combo for the DSLRs in full scale system compatibility. So, using your older lenses with thsoe specified bodies are not their priority.

Just curious: Is that possible to use a Makinon Ai Nikkor for a Nikon D200? I like the lens. The earlier post by someone has suggested it has limitation but the D200 has a wider compatibility (read from Dpreview). But I am not so sure yet.

Thanks.

I supposed nothing is wrong. CHECK if the exposure compensation of the camera has been overridden with darker (minus scales). If it does, set it back to neutral (0). BEFORE taking a shot, point to the darker section of the picture that you want to expose the picture will help. Avoid the sky.

I'am having one canon digital and one still camera (Roll). Why during day time images via Digi cam are darker than via Stll ( Roll ) camera. What this effect is called and how it can be avoided.
