Some Selective Digital SLRs - Message Board/Guestbook

Whether like it or not, owners of Digital Still SLR cameras have similar problems with computer users - the hardwares tend to phased out very rapidly & replaced with new models, while the ultimate goal of a full frame 35mm format with realistic prices, older models of Digicam may present some support issues - while I hope the creation of this Message Board provide some form of relief to exiting owners as well as those who may intend to invest into one of the used units as prices are more realistic as compared to many newer models. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Lastly, we can make use of this Board to learn from each other and share experience so as to improve our skill. As I don't have much time upkeeping as well as keeping up with so many new Digital SLRs that keep streaming up from the respective manufacturers; so, as for now, just treat this website as MIR's contribution to the Network for the photographic community. Lastly, please respect ownership of various brands and AVOID touching on sensitive topics (such as my brand is better than yours...). Enjoy.

Someday I hope to get a D200 that will meter wit my MF Nikon lenses but for now I have to say I'm really sold on the Old technology D100.
Picked up a D100 about three months ago. about a month ago I took it with me when we made our first visit to Europe--6 countries in 15 days. The D100 performed flawlessly. I shot more than 700 raw images and edited out dupes and bad shots as I went. Virtually everything I broght back is worth printing, in my opinion. 6.1 megapixels may not be as good as the D200 but looks better to me that a good share of the color film I've shot over the past few years. A big bonus on the D100 was battery life. I took an extra battery and probably could have got by without recharging--but I did just to be on the safe side.
The only thing that could have been better is I shot most stuff with a 28-105 house brand lens that did a good job but just wasn't as wide as I needed for a lot of the narrow streets. Now I have a Nikkor 18-70mm zoom which would have been perfect on the trip. The D100 design may be pretty old now but it ain't a bad camera.

I have Nikon macrolens Nikkor 105mm f2.8 with Nikon D70 Body.

I just bought a Sigma EM- 140 DG ring flash (nikon mount). However I discovered that the flash does not connect to the macro lens. The flash comes with a standard 55 and 58mm adapter, which didn't fit as well.

Would anybody recommend which flash adapter I need and approximate cost, where to buy?

Much appreaciated it. I'm sorry if this question been posted before.

Hi Kenneth:

Yes. I chose a Canon rather than a Nikon specifically so that I could use my old Nikkor lenses on it. With a $20 adapter, the Canon gives manual and aperture-priority auto metering with all manual focus Nikkors including the old Non-AI ones from the 60s. There is also a more expensive lens adapter with a chip that activates the AF lights in the viewfinder to help you focus... that one costs about $80. I have one of each of these adapters, both work well and permit infinity focus.

In addition the the Canon, you can get Nikkor adapters to fit the Olympus E-volt DSLRs. I don't think there is one to fit the Pentax line, but I haven't really looked for one.

Bruce, refer to the post below yours. Make a good refernce. BTW, I am using a F3HP too. Kenneth, it is fine with your older MF Nikkor except for some entry level DSLRs.

Questions: Is there a way I can use a device to mount my Nikkor (manual) lenses onto the Canon or Pentax new digital SLRs? Undecided what system to follow since Nikon new digital provides very little compaibility now and make no differences. - Kenneth
