Modern Classic SLRs Series : Various Nikon camera models - Message Board/Guestbook |
Since with the inception of Nippon Kogaku until the current Nikon Corporation - they were probably hundreds of camera models as well as million of Nikkor optics being sold thus far. It is very hard to satisfy everyone intention when each surfer coming to this Pictorial History Website (first created since 1997). Over the last few years, I have constructed quite a number of sites featuring a selective Nikon camera models (Nikon F(based on Mike Liu's previous effort, the Nikon F2 series, F3 Series, Nikon F4, NIkon F5, the digital SLR series as well as the midrange models such as Nikon FM series, FA, FE series, Nikkormat/Nikomat and the compact EM/FG/FG20 etc..). Each of these featured model has their respective Message Board to support specific owner of each camera types. However, there are a number of very good Nikon SLRs (as well as the film and/or Digital compacts wer quite exciting too. But due to various reasons, I cannot featured them one by one. This Message Board was created just for that purpose - to provide a gateway for those that were not being featured. You may use it for whatever you think suitable - questions & answers (Q&A) or just make good use of it to share experience among one another. The use of this section of the photography SITE is not confined soly for this purpose, you may also make use of it for other photographic matters. Some of the remarks presented within the pictorial history site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal of your equipment. You may make use of this convenience here to present your own views as well. Enjoy.

Hi leslie. I have a working Nikon EM that i inherited from my uncle and have been using it a lot lately. Your camera is not necessarily broken. First thing you should do is replace the batteries that can be located at the bottom of the camera. Then at the right hand side there is a lever for selecting modes. Making sure the mode is set to auto. Remember the EM is an automatic aperture priority camera. This means if you have the cap on and try to take a picture the camera will keep the shutter open, potentially for hours, because it is trying to get enough light onto the film to create a proper exposure. Take off the cap and point to a well lit environment and see if you still have the same problem.3. From : anthony (anthonyi10@cox.net)

Hi, I have a Nikon cmaera that I just acquired. I am trying to determine what model it is. It has no markings othe than Nikon. Thes max shutter speed is 1/2000. It is a SLR camera and does not have the prism on top, but a trapzoid shape. If anyone is an expert on Nikon, I will send them a picture of the cmaer if they provide me with an email address. Thanks

Hi Jamie: I would do a search of completed sales of Nikonos II cameras on eBay.... I'd guess the camera and lens are probably worth roughly $100. The underwater flash units may (each) be worth more than the camera, but it depends on what kind they are (underwater strobes are hard to find, bulb guns are less in demand). The Nikonos II is a very durable camera and still has a following among underwater users. Its weakest point is probably the difficulty of finding replacement O-ring seals for it. rick :)=5. Forgive me if I am repeating myself.I had trouble navigating the site and may have posted my previous question in the wrong place. This is ref. a Nikonos II. My father passed away two years ago and I have an old Nikonos II of his that my mom was going to give away to to charity. I am not very familiar with manual cameras but, feel it may be worth something. The camera appears to be in good condition, no scratches to lens, etc. It does not have a seperate case but is in a large hand tooled leather case with two underwater flash units and some misc. things (that I cannot identify). There are two pamphlets, How to Use Underwater Flash Unit for Nikonos/Nikon and a Nikkormat pamphlet. There is also a book, Underwater with the Nikonos & Nikon Systems by Herb Taylor, copyright 1977. I know this may be difficult sight unseen but, can anyone advise the possible value of this camera and equipment? I live in northern California (near San Francisco). Does anyone recommend I take it to someone (and if so, any referrals to someone reputable) to have it checked out. I appreciate any assistance. Although the camera has sentimental value I just don't have the space to store something I know I cannot use. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.6. From : Jamie (LJamieW@hotmail.com)

Hello. My dad passed away two years ago. In going through things we found an old Nikonos II. It has two underwater flash units and some misc. things that I am not certain of. There is a book from 1977, Underwater with the Nikonos & Nikon Systems by Herb Taylor, pamphlet: How to Use Underwater Flash Unit for Nikonos/Nikon and another pamphlet: Nikkormat. Everything is in a large brown hand tooled leather case. The camera itself is not in a seperate case and there are no extra lens. I am not familiar with cameras (my dad would be so disappointed as he gave me a very nice camera I never learned to use). My mom was going to give this to give this away as none of us can use it. However, I thought it may be worth something. I don't know how to check it out since I am not very familiar with manual cameras. I know this is a tough question, sight unseen but, can anyone advise the possible worth of this camera? I would appreciate any assistance. Thank you very much.8. From : chris (chrisdolphin@telus.net)

Hi Lesli, May & Kristen: Have you tried a new battery? The Nikon EM and FG will not operate if the battery is dead: you will be able to wind the shutter once, it will not release, and that's all you get. If you're still hung up with fresh batteries, I'm afraid you've got a repair shop visit that could cost more than the going value of the camera. rick :)=10. Hi, I've been trying to get into photography, and I picked up a Nikon EM at a yardsale for 5 bucks. And (surprise) it doesn't work. The shutter release worked once- then after that it wouldn't go at all, as if it were "stuck". Then a few hours of just pressing the shutter release button, the shutter DID release, but it stayed stuck. I managed to get it un stuck- I don't remember how- but now it is back to its normal self- not releasing the shutter. Everything else seems to work, and I don't have any money to get it repaired yet... I plan on trying to though. i just was wondering if it is something I could fix on my own. Thank you, Lesli
