Ah alas, I have left the world of the Canon New F-1.
I have sold my precious camera.
It is a sad day. The Canon nF-1 has been the best camera I have ever used (and I have used many as I used to work at a camera store).

This camera literally weathered over a decade of photographs and conditions ... and only once did it fail ... and that was due to me leaving the camera out in the rain ... but it survived (with a little soldering job on a contact) !!!!

They do not make camera's like they used to ... not to knock down the new Digital SLR's that are out there (since that is where I will be going), but the Canon nF-1 was such a solid reliable piece of equipment.

It is too bad that I cannot keep it as a backup ... but film is on the way out (very hard to get Kodak Panatomic X or Konica Infrared film) and I have held out for this long.

Hopefully the rest of you will continue to use this great camera until the very end.

Long live the Canon nF-1 !!!

F-1 has two version. One is 1971-1975. The other is F-1n, 1976-1981. Basically F-1 and F-1n is same model. 1981-. So parts for F-1 can be used for F-1n, not New F-1. New F-1 is totally different model. so you cannot use parts of F-1 or F-1n for New F-1. Is that clear for you?

hi, does some of the accessories made for the New f-1N and f-1n work with the old f-1(like viewfinders and motor drives)? more importantly, does focusing screens from new f-1N or f-1n work on an old f-1(1971)?

thanks.

This is truly a GREAT WEBSITE ! I love oldies and the New F1 has been my favorite model to collect. I am looking for a good unit of the Canon New F1 L.A Olympic unit for some time. The showcase unit of yours is very tempting indeed. Congrat for such a wonderful works.

Deb,

Unless you know that your hand held meter is accurate, you have no way of checking the F1 using a grey card. Using a steady light source, grey card and a calibrated meter will allow you to accurately check the exposure system of the F1.

I suspect the information about differences in calibration for your meter and camera, actually refer to area covered by the respective sensor. All things being equal, any properly calibrated exposure system will produce similar readings.

Just ensure that the grey card completely fills the F1 viewfinder, when you do your comparisons.

Greetings! I used to love my CanonF1N but have gotten very frustrated with underexposed (slide) images. I bought a new camera body (finally), after spending loads of money repairing my original camera body. The problem is not as bad (with the new body), but the problem with underexposure remains. I use a Sekonic spot meter often to assist the metering. I am wondering, if I am metering off a Grey Card, if this is my problem (given the debate about 12% and 18% reflectance?)(I read somewhere that there is a disconnect between CannonF1N and Sekonic meters calibration, so wonder if this might be the issue. Does anyone have thoughts about what to do? I still like film cameras, but the increase in frustration is driving me crazy. With my old CanonTLB I used to get great shots (slides) all the time. Is there an expert out there who can check out the problem?? Please let me know. Thanks, Debbie D.
