I own an original CANON F-1 (bought it from a professional photographer in the late 70's). Used it sporadically to this day but recently the ratchet mechanism on the film advance broke. Any suggestions on getting hold of this assembly? Any hints as to how to fix it? Would a motor drive for film advance bypass the ratchet? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to decipher the serial number on a Canon Ftb circa 1973. Whats the earliest serial number on a Canon Ftb anyone has heard of in private hands. Is there a website with serial numbers for Canon SLRs of the 70s. Thanks Merlin

Just got a Canon Diopter R +3 for my F-1n (second generation). How do I install this critter? Is it simply screwed on OVER TOP the existing optic in the eyepiece (after removing the outer ring) or must that internal optic be removed? Shipman's book is silent which leads me to believe even my ham-fisted installation would work out. Appreciate your time. Don Boyd

I've got the orginal Canon F1 with a booster T finder and Power Winder A. I'm considering purchasing a Servo EE finder, but am a little confused on the battery pack. Can anyone give me the actual name for the 12v pack, or if anyone has the EE finder, does it actully need an external power supply to run? Thanks for any assistance. Bob email to w1ti@attbi.com or bmcguire@amsweb.com

Can the foam which seals the film door be replaced? How do I find a qualified person to replace this foam? Also, the foam on the mirror is broken down, can this foam/damper be replaced? Thank you.

Jeff, The F-1 started with serial number 100001. L is the year code. First digit(s) is month. The last letter is factory location code. Your F-1 was built September 1971. I cannot decipher the location codes. The 1.5v battery is fine to use without any problems. But, to compensate for the extra output you need to set the camera film speed at half of the film you are using. If you use 200 speed film set your camera at 100. 800 film is set at 400, ect. Lindy

Hi all, I have an original F-1 non (n) (no plastic on the winding lever) I got maby 12 years ago and I was wondering if anyone knows what serial # the F-1 started production with. And if anyone can tell me when the camera was made. The Serial # is 125835 and the hard to read paint or stamp mark in the film compartment is or looks like L914C. The 9,4 and C look pretty obvious but the L and 1 may be something els. I am currently changing the mirror cussion and I am going to try and build a small regulator or something so I can
use a 1.5v battery. Thanks for any help Jeff
