My F3 suddenly started to trip the shutter at the end of rotating the the film advance lever. It does this even with the batteries removed. Is this a malfunction, or is this camera designed to trip the shutter by means of the film advance to afford the user a rapid sequence of shots even without a power advance? As I´m in the middle of a multi-week trip through Central America, any advice or suggestion would be extremely welcome. Robert Nord

This photographic website is absolutely fantastic ! It puts the commercially motivated official Nikon site to shame - perhaps, the Comapny should consider buying the entire content from you to rename it as theirs - at least let us see how committed are they in product support even though they have been discontinued. Living in the past of telling how great their cameras were is no use to loyal users in practical term. For that, I salute the effort of the team who out in the effort of creating this best Nikon site on the Net thus far ! Bravo, Bravo ...

У меня F3+MD-4 1992 года, успользую его уже год, работает замечательно, использую советскую оптику, снимал им в Казахских степях, в горах Кавказа, на Черном море... Отличная камера для серьёзной работы в тяжелых условиях!

Aah... forget about it. I would rather leave it as it is. I have seen many of the FM users who are doing this but after a period of time, the paint works made the camera feel so cheap on the look .. well. if it hurts your vision, why don't you get a better conditioned F3 ? (But seriously, I would like to do it in this manner - afterall, a camera with a little brassing does look quite "sexy")

Hi! I just got an F3. The electronics seems ok. It is a working camera so there is some brassing and scratches etc. My question is: Does any one know waht's the best method to get rid of the brassing? I was thinking of using one of those paint pens that is used to cover minor scratches on cars (they have many variation of colours: e.g: for black alone there are about 5 types.. so I can choose the black that best suits the black colour of the F3). What do you guys think?

martin: It sounds to me the problem may arise from in proper contact of the shutter magnet or the combination MG (cases may happened especially when camera suffers a nasty drop). Why don't you consider sending your camera for a check up and as well as servicing ? Hardwares do required maintainance after long use. Well, the F3 is a very reliable camera, although mine had once got it done 5 years ago, it doesn't give me any trouble thus far yet.

HARVEY ROYLE: Although the F3 does not provide a power checker, but it was the first pro-spec SLR that offered a LCD display (simple, bare basic). The LCD is far superior than LED in terms of power efficiency. It is also used for determine whether the status f the power cells. Generally, the LCD will display photo data once it has been lightly touch on the shutter release button. If it stays on (will turn-off after 16 sec to conserve power). If it turns off immediately after your finger is release from the shutter release buton, it is time to change the cells. Well, don't worry, it takes minimal power (approx. 2.45v) to activate the shutter release (the only thing is, you have to reactiviate the meter reading). Basically, you will still have a backup speed that runs mechanically even without any power cells installed inside the camera. NEXT, the MD-4 is indespensible accessory as it will take over all the power for the camera once it is mounted. I think Nikon also makes a few anti-cold accessories called DB-XX (?) (searh the site/manual section).
