Terri, If you open the back door of your camera in the film compartment you will see a black ink number stamped there if you take that number to this page: http://www.canonfd.com/agedet.htm you will find a chart that will decipher the numbers to give you the build date. The FTb was first sold in 1971. Be sure to check out the other gret info on Christians site: http://www.canonfd.com3. From : Terri Sharland (tpisces2@iprimus.com.au)

Steve while I appreciate your service to help keep the cameras I use in working condition. As one of the maintainers of this message board, I think this message board is not the place for you to self advertise your business. There are more suitable places for advertisement.5. Actually, alternative site is http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/canonf1n/metering/screens/screens.htm & the relative section: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/canonf1n/metering/index.htm it gives you a better idea how it (the partial and Spot meter with the respective fousing screen types) works and all the available screen types are on the next page. Cheers.7. From : Alan Yates (alan.ystes@freenet.co.uk)

Hello Will, If you still need the Focussing Screen info, have a look at these two pages from the Canon New-F1 World book. Both pages are available from Christian’s website (www.canonfd.com). Just go to Books published by Canon, 1984 Canon The New F-1 World in English, Pages 32 & 33. A-P-S are the sensitivity patterns: Average, Partial, and Spot metering. http://www.canonfd.com/newf1world/nf1w_p032.jpg http://www.canonfd.com/newf1world/nf1w_p033.jpg Hope this helps, Kind regards Alan8. Andreas' comment is probably the correct one.
It could be that the window on the left side is blocked by something.
If you look carefully enough you will see a red line and a small circle.9. From : Andreas Kohl (junk_food@gmx.de)

To Boris: Regarding your hanging match-needle, it is in the camera. If you remove the finder and check under the left rail, you see a small slot. Right above the focussing screen. Light comes in from the milky window on top and reflects the display to the right side in the finder. Please watch my discussion for match-needle invisible problem which is ongoing right now. Looks like you are also from Germany, if you have a good hint for F1N repair, please let me know. Best regards Andrea10. Thanks Mark for thinking about it so deeply ! When I look through the prism, I see the slot clearly. And I have standard prism to exchange. The failure is not in the prism. I also took a laser pointer and moved it very close to the milky window, no ray of light comes through, even when I have the prism removed and watch the match-needle directly on the left side.
A test on my old F1 showed light immediately. There must be something in the way between the milky window and the match-needle itself. The light still works okay if I switch on and touch the release button. Thanks again and best regards Andreas
