Can anyone decipher the date code (P339) inside my F-1? I would like to know what year it was produced. Thanks, Joe

Pic above clearly shows the location of the ink stamp in the camera's film chamber. According to James Bielecki, long time gatherer of F-1 build code info, another 2 years would pass while the F-1N was still in production. If you'd like to check out the closed auction, the outstanding pics remain up at: Lindy

The NEW F-1 looks slightly different. Ther NEW F-1 is also refered to as nF-1 or F-1n (n for new). Just looking at the front of the camera you will notice on the Orig F-1 the Self-Timer/Stop-Down switch that is not present on the New F-1. Also the AE finder is only available on the nF-1. The AE finder is about two times taller and does not have that pointy head. The nF-1 also offers Shutter Priority with any winder/drive and Aperture Priority with the AE finder. The Orig F-1 is a fine camera, but the nF-1 is even better.

I have a question for those that have taken their nF-1 apart ... if you remove the base cover is there suppose to be a seal (such as an o-ring)? I have been caught in the rain a number of times and have notices that water can leak into this area. I only see water seals around certain parts of the base cover. (if you get water in this area it can corrode the "winding complete" switch which will cause the shutter not to release unless the battery meter button is pressed first)

Smitty, W means 1982 and 3 means March. The 01means the inspector number. In addition your body was made in the 13th month of production that continued for 10 years. Lindy
