Hi! I'm considering buying either a F-1N or Canon A-1. I'm not sure which one to choose from because I've heard both have excellent features. Can anyone tell me which are the pros and cons of both models? Thank you John L. Toronto, Canada lakshmansweb@sprint.ca2. From : Duane k (dkucheran@creo.com)

Re: F-1N not stopping down lens. It sounds very much like a problem with the body. Does lens not stop down even when the preview button is actuated? (that's the one beside the mount on the left looking from the front). With the lens off you should see the little lever on the bottom of the mount move back and forth when previewing or exposing.
On a related note, I found out that the AE winder requires that the little metal cover over the rewind port be installed. I got my F-1N with the winder and the diaphragm would not close down as it should on auto exposure in shutter priority. When I found a cover and installed it, the lens worked as it should. I think the cover is needed for proper alignment. Now since you have a motor drive this cover must be removed but maybe by fiddling with the alignment you might get an insight into the problem.
Good luck

I recently purchased a Canon F1N with AE finder and AE motor drive and all functions work great except that I cannot get the camera body to change the aperture in either manual or AE mode. Is there something I am missing as far as operation of camera is concerned? Even when stopping down manually, the lens stays at full aperture. I have used several different FDn lenses as well as FD breech lens to no avail. Suggestions or time for repair shop? Thanks.4. From : Jomar Haktorson (jomarh@online.no)

Hey Johnny If you meen the six contact point placed in a row in a slot at the edge of the bottom the camerahouse, there is no cover. When there is no motor attached to the camera there shall be 3 aluminium cowers under the camera: 1. One for advansing the film 2. One for rewinding the film (under film cartridge)
3 One little in the middle to control the automatic On the bottom of the Motor drive FN there is a chamber to hide the three covers when the camera is used with motoerdrive. I suspect the covers often are forgotten in chambers, and therefore many F-1Ns are soled without the covers, so, Best place to search for such covers: In the chambers under the motor drives.

Hello,
I'm not near my camera and trying to remember how many dots there are between the 3200 ASA setting and the 6400ASA setting. I think there are two which means the two dots account for a
4366 ASA setting and a 5333ASA setting...I'm talking about the new Canon F-1n...
Anyone out there?8. From : Andrew Lam (asklam@pc.jaring.my)

I have been a faithful Canon New F-1 user since 1985, and I just discovered this website (rather embarrassing that I'm from Malaysia); it is great to see so many other users. I just thought I should inform everyone that if you watch the movie "Spider-Man" you will see Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) use a Canon New F-1 with AE Finder FN! (The white labelling "Canon" & "F-1" on the camera body is blacked-out, but the light admitting window on the front of the AE finder FN and the projecting finger of the finder to accept the pin on the shutter speed dial are clearly visible.)9. Andrew: Here are the adresses to some net-shops that occasionally may have an AE-finder.

BTW, did you know that the automaic aperture Priority metering works well without the AE-finder. The only difference between the AE-finder and the Eye level finder FN is the horisontal scale that shows the shutter speeds when the shutter wheel is set to A. Just try. Set the wheel to A and shoot. You will notice that the camera selcts longer shuttertimes in bad light or if you choose small apeertures. The automatic exposure works, but you will not see the selected spee Any way I envy you your waist level finder. The are very rare. I have been looking for one some time but hav'nt found one yet.
