Hi,
just glanced through your site, i wonder if you know anything about new F-1's problem with high battery power consumption. i have a 2nd-hand F-1n which can't be used now because it just gobbles up the battery in no time (battery gets warm when inserted and rapidly loses power -- maybe because of short circuit?). my camera repair shop man says no way can make it work like before again as parts no longer available -- he seems to think it's an I.C. problem. any comment? i wouldn't mind buying another F-1n body as i like its ruggedness. also does anyone want to sell FD wide lenses (17mm, 20-35L).
thanks and cheers'
w.g. mansor

Jomar Haktorson: That pin is for locking the AE finder - just like the Nikon F or F2 camera with their respective Metered finder. Once the metered AE Finder is mounted on to the camera, the protruding side will mate with the steel pin on top of the shutter ring, you can get Aperture Priority AE with the AE finder mounted on. See the difference between eyelevel finder and AE Finder: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/canonf1n/viewfinder/index.htm

The steel pin is only used with a AE finder. When set on A, it pushes a lever in the finder and makes the finder show the AE speedscale instead of the normal scale. Ketil

Hi, I'm new to this group, and have got my hands on a F-1N for the first time. After studying the user manual I have found out most of its functions and checked that everything works. I have just one question: Can anybody tell what the little steel pin on top of the shutter selection wheel is meant for. The grooved edge of the wheel gives good grip to the finger tip, and can't see that the steel pin should be more suitable as crank handle for the wheel.

Bart, You can easily see if your F1 old is the first or second model. The second one have a plastic tip on the winder lever, a film memo on the back, and the ASA setting goes to 6400. It's basicly the same camera as the first model. regards, Ketil

I have a question about the three models of F-1. Are the first two models easily distinguishable by sight? I used to own what I think was a New F-1 (third model). On it, you set ISO around the rewind knob, and the film rewind release was on top beside the shutter speed dial. I recently bought an older version, but I'm not sure whether it is the first model or the second. I appreciate any info. I will try to get back to this board, but if you could e-mail me that would be great. Thanks, Bart
