I own an old canon F1. I am trying to research focusing screens and prisms for my camera. How compatable are the new screens to the old make, if at all? I'm specifically interested in a laser screen for better visiblity at night. Is there one available for the old F1? I'm also looking for a standard prism, but ebay and KEH have none. To Hans-Joerg Ott- there is a D focusing screen with an grid screen on right now 4/30/02. It's being sold out of the US. Hope that helps!

Dear Sir, I don't know if I'm in the correct site to submit my request, but perhaps you could please direct me to where I might be able to purchase aback for my F1N.Please reply either way. Thank you in advance for your time. I've read comparisons between the F3 Nikon & Canon F1N for years. There are pros & cons two both, but Ive been a Canon user since about '72 every since my brother brought home a Pellix. Since that time I've purchased an A1 and then an F1N with several accessories and wanting more, well I've got to close... Please assist me if you can. Respectfully, Neal

Suzabelle: Best place to buy F1N, why, ebay of course (, or if you're German). Enlist for a username and look up for auctions. I would further recommend contacting the Yahoo newsgroup These guys are great.

John! Check the pictures! Shoot two pictures of the same object. One picture with manual match needle meetering and one automaticly with the power winder and lens in A-position (use same speed). See if there is any difference between the pictures. Slides will be best as they are not adjusted during developing Jomar H

Is anyone aware of a digital camera back that attaches to the back of a Canon F-1n in lieu of the standard camera back? --Seth

I have an F1 and Power Winder FN. With the lens in "A" it sounds that the shutter speed is slower than normal (camera on full manual). Do you know the reason, and is there a fault with the camera/winder? Best regards John HALAS

You have to use the F1N in stopped down mode. Push the button out. The ring will then dissapear. Since you can't set the aparture on the lens, you have to adjust the shutter time until the needle matches the mark near the 5.6 marking. When you set the camera on AE, the time will adjust itselves, if you have the AE prism. regards, Ketil

HELP! FD Reflex lens users: I have a Canon F1N camera and I wonder whether an FD 500mm f/8 reflex fixed aperture lens will work on Shutter-Priority mode (i.e. given the speed the camera searches for the right aperture), since it doesn't have an "A" setting on the aperture ring. Mounting the lens on the camera body the aperture ring inside the viewfinder locks to f/5.6 (instead of f/8 I should expect). How is the correct speed matched on manual? Needle matching on f/5.6 ring? Does anyone know how this lens is used on shutter-priority mode and manual ?
