Stuart, Lodge an online support enquiry with Canon Australia. They should have information as to the availability of a charger for the E315 through Dealer list near you.

I bought a Canon High Voltage E315 Battery Pack, with the laminated cell, and the cable. But I don't know which charger to get. Anyone here use this combo? It is a LOT less than a Turbo, which I had considered.

Char, From what you have described I would suspect a fault to be present with the winding motor: you can hear it winding but the film does not wind on; dirty or blocked IR receiver/transmitter 'eyes' along the film guide rails (in many EOS models as a design change over traditional sprocket winding, these count the number of film perforations and stop the film winding on at the correct point between each frame); ensure each 'eye' is free of any dirt/obstruction.

It is likely there is a shutter fault if a) you are absolutely sure the film is moving through the camera; and b) you can observe, with the camera back open, the shutter does not open when the shutter button is pressed (at arbitrary speeds). DO NOT TOUCH THE SHUTTER even if operation appears abnormal.

Because of so many doubts, the best action you can take is to have the camera fully examined for faulty operation at a Canon service centre. garyh

Hi, I just recentlybought, used a canon Rebel Ti camera. I shot two rolls of film and they came back unexposed. The film seems to be advancing. Could this be a shutter problem. How about the shutter curtain...how do I go about checking this....should it open when I press the shutter button? Can it be opened while the camera back is open to test it? Please, any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Char

Chris, Both the EOS1N (max speed with PDB-E1 6.0 fps) and its identical brother, EOS1N-RS (max speed 9.0 fps) remain a solid working photographer's investment, even in these quirky times of the rapid take-up of digital cameras. Build quality in both models is much more solid and impressive than that observable on many of today's digital cameras (including those from Canon!), and this is what I personally look for, second to reliability.

Your wildlife interests would seem to dictate the EOS 1N RS, with the advantage that, along with its 1/8000s top Tv speed (same as 1N) its pellicle mirror does not black out the viewfinder at the moment the shutter fires, so you do not lose sight of your subject during high speed tracking and exposure. This, combined with a fast (f2.8 or f4) tele-zoom lens and fast film, will prepare you well for capturing that decisive moment.

One difference between the 1N and RS models is that on the 1N, the power drive booster E1 is an optional and removeable item. On the 1N RS, a power drive booster E1 is permanently attached. If you are not careful with high speed drive exposures you will find the EOS 1N RS very easily consuming a 36 exposure roll of film in about 3 seconds!

Globally, the 1N RS can be a difficult model to find, and not necessarily expensive (I saw one recently for AUD$1,250 ex-Pro studio use, in excellent condition). The best examples have been snapped up by avid collectors; they are an excellent reminder of a defining period in Canon's EF camera engineering. Scout around good professional secondhand dealers or maybe look for advertisers. eBay is another worthwhile avenue, but be extremely careful to verify proof of ownership, the working history of the camera and overall body condition (especially any visible tampering with the serial number). *AVOID* battered, heavily-used examples with unknown history—either 1N or RS.

Odezi: the built-in flash output in not very high and is best suited for small rooms with low ceilings for best results. Do a few test shots of indoors subjects at say 5-10’ away from the camera and see if they are correctly exposed. Winston
