Is there a chart that shows compatibility of the canon 10d and the canon flash units, particularly the older ones including the macro ringlites. I know that the further back you go in years the more features you loose, thats' O.K.Which of the earlier models of Canon flash will work with the 10D and how far back. Thanks3. I mis-identified my camera in my request for info on re-installing the focusing screen. My camera is not an A2E, it is an EOS Elan IIE. Help for focusing screen re-installation per my last email much appreciated.

I purchased an AIIE by mail order. When it arrived the Focusing Screen and mount items (a brass shim or mask and a spring clip) had fallen out of the screen housing. Does anyone have instruction for correct re-installation, i.e., orientation of brass shim, order of insertion of brass shim and screen, proper orientation of focusing screen, does screen have a top and a bottom, or can it be inserted with out regard to which side faces the mirror box? Help very much appreciated.
Respects

Hi
I have been reading the page http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/eos/index.htm talking about the kickoff of the EOS system.
I think that the reason of dropping the FD mount was to improve AF speed.
I can be wrong, but I think that the history is the following:
In the beginning, Minolta's AF, and Nikon's also, was not aware of the focal length or the aperture of the lens. The AF logic detected the phase and then took the decisions to turn the AF motor to one or other side.
OTOH, Canon's AF measured the phase difference between the two AF sensors. This information was sent to the lens (which knows the focal length and the aperture) and the lens matched it with a table which told the AF logic not only the side but also how much steps it had to turn. Canon's motors are step-by-step. So the AF calculated from the first moment the number of steps the focusing motor had to turn.
This was a much faster and accurate method, and it lead to the well known image of white Canon telephoto lenses at every sport event.
This achievement could only be possible with a electronic mount.
However this does not explain why the EF mount had a larger register (44mm) than the FD mount (42mm).
Thanks for the site.8. From : Winston (winclowe@yahoo.com)

I have the Canon EOS10Q Body with the Canon Ultrasonic Zoom lense EF35-135. Can this lense be used on any new digital Canon cameras. Also, why does this camera not operate if you are in the dark. While in Quilin, China, we were taken into an underground river that had no light source, and the camera would not flash.Did I have an incorrect setting? We were there 1989-93 and I had purchased the camera in Hong Kong.10.
