Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. Hi I have had a F2A that I bought in NYC (Camera Barn) 75? and the finder was rebuilt my Professional Camera in 90? I havent shot much in the last 10 years as my eyes have shifted.. I found a very clean F4AS in a local photo shop for $350. I know I would most likely have to buy new lens.. current favs are my Nikon 80-200mm and my Soligor 35-105 w/macro...what do you think? I know when the F4 came out it was 2K+ and we drooled over it..
1. is it a righteous deal.
2. show I buy it..
and If I do
what af lens do you recomend..

Hi there. I shoot Pro and use all digital now for about 5 years and NOBODY shoots with film anymore NOBODY ! You just can't wait for film to be processed. We all had to have 2 or more bodies loaded doing sports so we didn't lose a shot and shooting sports doesn't give you much of a chance to change cameras sometimes . Today with a Nikon D3x or D2xs with a 64 Mb card we can use the same body all day and just have a spare camera with a different lense on it . I use my 14-24 2.8 on one body and 24-70 2.8 on another depending where and what you are shooting. There are usually 2 or more of us mainly 1 guy shooting wider angles and 1 shooting out further with 70-200 2.8 or 300-500 4, and thousands of shots durring a football game
Try to that with a film camera ? Cheers.

I want to know the serial number range for the F-4 if anyone knows. Has anyone ever cleaned the filters in the DP-20 finder? I haven't ever done this but maybe it should be done.
My F-4 has both battery packs but I mostly use it with the MB-23 pack for longer life.
This camera still gets some use by me but I mainly shoot with my D2xs now as I cannot rely on my films being developed properly anymore. It is mainly streaks on the films from poor washing I believe but nobdy seems to care anymore. The cost of shooting films now is to much compared to digital but if you don't need to have the pictures made into digital ,it is still cheaper. I do believe my F-4E will be around long after my D-100 and F4E are either obsolete ( maybe now ) or worn out . Nikon will only repair minor things now that the parts have been discontinued. I had the camera completely checked in 04 and it is like new.
Well we can't go backward. Cheers Roy

To me the F4 is one of the most underrated cameras ever. Nikon built in all the features that are still crucial nowadays, nothing much happened since then in metering, focussing, shutter speed etc. Ok, Canon took the pros with their EOS, but this doesn't put the F4 down in any way.I have all Fs and take pictures mostly with the F6. But the F5 being too heavy, the F4 is always my second body. Only recently I saw a picture of a contributing photographer in a National Geographic issue - you can see him using an F4 - today!

hello, my mother gave me an Nikon F4 camera but the prism is broken. I am looking to buy a used prism if someone has one or knows of someone selling one. Also, it looks like there are several different types of prisms that would work with this camera? If not then the original one that it comes with will be fine.

Thank you for any advice!
Amanda

I received a very nice Nikon F4 camera from a friend, but it has a problem I cannot seem to solve:
after every shot the red alert led ("film transport issue") starts blinking, locking the shutter for about 20 seconds.
I tried reloading the film over and over again, but nothing works. Anybody...?
Thank you very much!
