Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. Some of the opinion presented within the site was specifically my personal experience and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. Sean, the F4 will not work with "DX" (digital) or "G" lenses ("G" lenses have no mechanical aperture ring). It will work well with AI and AIS lenses, and with standard AF lenses (if don't mind the rather slow AF system).

Have fun - it's a great camera!

Wrong email address on first posting - I'd be keen to hear if my F4' will be compatible with the 55-200 AF.S DX Nikon zoom; can anyone help?
Thanks,
Sean

I've just bought an F4 (very excited!) I'd like to use one of the new Nikon 55-200 zooms with it - the AF.S DX 55-200 f4-5.6G - can anyone tell me whether it is compatible and whether the AF will work - I'm having doubts, but I haven't bought the lens yet.

Thanks, Sean - Sean

Peter, The LCD display on the MF-23 is sort of self-lighted, similar to the ones on the newer SLR's. The manual for the MF-24 is on this site. It's operation is the same as the MF-23 except for the large film spools. Walt

Can anybody please tell me if the MF-23 or MF-24 backs have backlighting on the LCD screen. I know my F4 has lighting on the internal screens, but the MF-23 I don't know as I have only just purchased it and a MB-23 from the US. Thanks, Peter Johnson

Dear All. Are there any developments for a digital camara back matching an F4? Unfortunately the famous e-film, announced over the years, did not make it. It would be a shame to put an F4 on the shelf once the film rolls run out (when ist this expected to be?). Best regards, Dirk
