Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. I have an F4 with the MB-20 battery pack so it fits in the CF-41 case. Does anybody know if it will still fit in the CF-41 case with my recently acquired MF-23 multi function back?

I'm also looking for a manual for my MF-23 if anyone know of one or of a pdf file for one. Thanks, Brian

" ..I have a F4s that just started to focus for no reason...in S mode". There is nothing wrong with your camera. Regardless of in Single or Contiimuous Servo, the AF will start focusing. The only thing that puzzles me is, it is not suppose to focus when it is not on. If it focuses by itself wihout setting the camera power on, then it is a issue. But it shouldn't be as you battery won't last that long for you to see the camera works. So, if assuming the camear is on, and it hunts for focus then it is functioning well.

I have a F4s that just started to focus for no reason. I am in S focus and the camera will start to focus at random times without pressing the shutter button....other then that the camera works fine.

Anyone have this issue, or have heard of it?

Eddie, I have both the F4 and the F100, and the F4 is indeed significantly louder than the F100. I prefer to use the F4, but have to take into account this noise factor when selecting which body I will use for a particular application.

I just got a near mint F4 and everything works fine, good pictures, etc. BUT......it is much more noisy than F100 focusing, advancing, rewinding etc. Does this make sense?

i am looking to use the an SLR camera as a 'depth of field' device for a DV video camera. i would like to focus the video camera on the focusing screen of the f4. as such, i need a screen with as clear and clean an image as possible. are there any focusing screens that DO NOT have any markings, cross hairs, or other noticeable optical effects/gradients that fit the f4?

thank you!

I have an F4S that whose matrix metering seems to work eradically. The spot metering continuously works. The Matrix lights up works for a shot and then powers down. It is my understanding that the spot metering is driven by the body and the matrix is driven by the metering prism. Any ideas what might be causing this?
