Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. Some of the opinion presented within the site was specifically my personal experience and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. Yeap. Between the new & old: - New Nikon F65 package: £197.87. Used, recent posted clean, Nikon F4s on Ebay buy-it-now at USD 399-00 (another used conditioned F4s at only USD 275 !). conventional logical thinking will easily tells you - just take the F4s !! over time, a classic's value should retain with little hurt on the investment, the F65 may end up inthe junk sales yard & lucky to get back 1/4 of original value...the same goes for digital cameras whcih may suffer even WORST in depreciation of values ..

WHO doesn't admire the Nikon F4 ? It take a serious users to appreciate what it can offer in one's photography. However, most won't bother much - frankly, if one knows how depandable this AF Tank, it wil never regrets !

To Walt McKinney: For a listing of production changes to the F4 by serial number his site may be helpful:

http://www4.ncsu.edu/unity/users/j/jnwall/html/f4faq.htm#Purchase See section 14.1, you'll have to scroll past some material that will be pretty basic for you, however, section 14.1 gives a few references to production modifications / upgrades to during F4 production from various sources. I'm beginning to approach the same aging eyesight issue as you. It seems that the F4's focus confirmation function with manual lenses may help me fool myself for a while longer. BTW, thanks for your work on the F3 site. I've appreciated your insights since I found the link a few years ago.

Hi, I've been having an issue with my F4s. Just got it back from Nikon 's NY repair facility for battery compartment issues. Presently, the shutter release will fire once, then occasionally not let me fire it again. I turn if off, turn it on, and it works. I haven't had this unit for very long, so wonder if there's something I'm missing in terms of proper operation? Please cc my email in your response as I'm not regular on this board. TIA

Jwoods, Yes, I'm afraid that my advancing age and deteriorating eyesight have begun to force me from the realm of manual focus cameras into the Auto-focus world. Even with diopter correction on my F3HP, I seem to be getting far too many shots that are slightly out of focus. I thought I'd give the F4 a whirl. My wife has an N80, and I've found I really don't care for the entirely digital type of camera. I guess I'm too much a knob and dial type.

I hope to soon be participating more in this forum as well as the F3, which I plan to keep. Thanks for your help. Walt
