Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. Some of the opinion presented within the site was specifically my personal experience and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. You may make use of this convenience here to present your own views. Enjoy.

Scott,

The MB-21 is really nothing more than a battery pack. The film winding mechanism is inside the camera body.

It sounds like the film wind sprockets are somehow becoming disengaged from the film at that point on the roll. This seems hard to believe since you have taken 12-14 photos on the roll already. Has it done this on more than one roll of film? Does the film rewind into the cassette properly?

It also could be the drive motor connection with the winding mechanism is slipping and you are hearing the motor whirring. In any case, this sounds like a trip to the shop is in order.

Walt

Richr, The Nikon AF-S lenses will work nicely on the F4. Their only drawback is their price. They are not "for digital only". They were on the market before digital SLRs came out.Walt

This is an incredible web resource for Nikon F4 (my all time favorite). The Forum here is useful. I thnk the main issue is how to make it "known" to the F4 community. I have tried to post a recomeddation link at photo.net but it was not published (strange, they (moderators) are not working ?). May be some of you try to talk as well. Google has listed it at top searche return result but Yahoo is a NO. But the creator (leofoo) seemed not too keen on promoting his site(s)(strange to me too). May be with the new moderator, perhaps Walt can do something on behalf. I simply like this place...

I would be glad to assist in whatever way I can, given my still limited knowledge of the F4 and its systems. I'm learning, though. I appreciate your comments about the F3 site.

Walt

Dear Kenny, thanks for the kind words on this Nikon F4 project. In relation to use of images in the F4 FAQ site - it is perfectly all right, this is a noncommercial/recreational section in MIR and I am glad they be of good use. Actually, the link provided by Tim Jagielski was a good one. I have included it at the main page of the Nikon F4 site. Suggestive Link to others is not a necessity but I still thank you for your concern. Have a nice day, Thanks.

By the way, since Walt is using a Nikon F4 now - simply based on your excellent works on maintenance on Nikon F3 Message Board, can I have your patronage as caretaker to guard and assist this Nikon F4 Board ? (Name has included now at the bottom of this page). I sincerely welcome any volunteer(s) that can spare some time & knowledge on the Nikon F4, as I am rather busy on other web development works. Please use this board to response (or mail Walt of your intention). Thanks Pal.

Thanks for the link on F4 FAQ, the section on version history is great. I notice some of the images used there are actually "borrowed" from this site (MIR). It should have a link to promote this site (as well as this lovely forum) but instead, it has pointed to many commercial links. I think this malayian Nikon F4 site is the BEST you can find on the web today - but I would think F4 FAQ should include this incredible F$ resources. I have put up a recommendation to the webmaster and see what happens next. By the way, to the creator (leofoo ?) congrats on such a fantastic works done !

Richr, I'm using the Nikkor 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 AF-D lens on my F4. It does a great job, even though the F4 isn't able to use the "D" feature of the lens. The optics on this lens are very good, and it's macro capability is outstanding. Walt
