Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. Hello to All who contribute to this great site! It certainly has influenced my purchase a few days ago a mint - like new F4E with the MB20. I'm living all over again enjoying every moment i play with this new toy/tool. Ever since my first Nikon FM in 1976, I've added a brand new F3 last of the production about 3 years ago, a FM3a and recently a mint FE2. Like someone commented: What have you been playing? Boys' toys. Until now, that is. I never really liked this monster before. But now in its basic F4 body, the more I play with it the more it grows on me. What amazes me further is that coupled with a TC16A and my CZ Jena 2.8/80 it works marvelously well in A mode. Question is: Do I need to compensate in both A and M modes? Please can some one advise. I already have Nikon AIS 24/2, 50/1.4, 35-105/3.5-4.5, 25-50/4. As I need a true macro, I'm thinking of AF 105/2.8 or 200/4 to complement the F4. Your comment please. I t will be my first AF lense. john

I recently picked up a Nikon F4s in amazing condition. It's a huge step up from my Prakticas that I was shooting. I'm loving it every time I shoot it. Anyways, a question I'm hoping someone can answer... I just bought and received a Metz SCA 3401 M3 adapter from EBay to use with my Metz 40 MZ-2. It's working great. However, I'm just wondering if someone can confirm what the switches on the adapter do? It appears exposure compensation, fill-in, curtain-sync, and something else. If anyone can let me know what these switches do (and save me guessing), it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Joel

I just bought a used F4s. I'm a long term Nikon user, from F2's to FE2's: an ex pro who put himself through two degrees with cameras, so I regard them as tools not yuppie accoutrements, whether shooting for fun or profit. However, I expect professional level Nikons to fit together well. I note that the DP-20 finder seems to have some "give". ie. Looking at the camera from above, I can twist (without undue force), the finder so that it moves somewhat. The amount it moves is very modest, enough that the 45 degree gap between finder and body just below the "compensation value scale window" on the finder widens by perhaps 1/2 millimeter. My question is simply: is this typical of these cameras? My concern is that dust/water etc. could enter the camera. I shoot now only for fun but often in somewhat "extreme" outdoor settings in Canada, so it is a factor.

I recently purchased a used F4s. My F3 was getting a little too "old" and my N70 a little too "plastic". The camera works flawlessly and there's only one cosmetic flaw: The exposure selector markings have been rubbed off. The M is still very clear but the A, S, P and Ph are gone. Any ideas on how I can remedy this.

I have a Nikon F4 camera and I am wanting to get a flash for it. What would you consider the best flash for the F4? I am considering buying a used Nikon SB 24 or SB 25. Would either one be suitable and would one be better than the other? Thanks!

This is a fabulous work. I have great admiration for all the work of love featuring all those classic cameras of yester-years (probably they were produce of my time during the '80). I am still keeping my F4 and resisting the temptation of great new AF bodies. Currently, I am using an AF 60mm f/2.8D and AF zoom 80-200mm f/2.8 ED with a few MF Nikkor primes from 20mm f/3.5, 80mm f1.4, 300mm f4.5 ED as well as a Refelx Nikkor 500mm f/8.0. Recently, an old friend of mine have tried to sell me his entire collection of old lenses, along with a Japanese version of a Nikormat FTn, some have duplicating focal lengths but the main issue is, virtually all the lenses are non-Ai and I have not actually been using Stop Down AE with my F4. So, just curious whether is it a good entry point or should all those lenses be modified to Ai-spec. Lastly, thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I am travelling right now, please use the board to response (if any). Cheers. A quick note from Kathmandu, Nepal.
