Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. I am the proud owner of a F4S for the last 12 years without any problems over those years. From shooting in Rain, snow & dust. As I do not rely on Auto focus as much as lazy people and semi-blind people this camera is perfect for my usage. After using a Canon A95 point&Shoot digital I have become accustomed to the ease of use of Digital, BUT NOT THE IMAGE QUALITY which at this stage does not come anywhere near Fuji Velvia-50. Does anyone outhere know of a digital back that would fit an anolog SLR? ie; All camera functions work as normal except the image is captured on a sensor/card instead of film?

The reason is that I have read all the reviews/comments on current Digital SLR's and they're not worth 20 cents compared to the F4 (Especially the ease of use of the controls). I can;t see why I should spend somewhere around $8000 for a Nikon Digital and then 2 yrs later spend another $8000 on a newer model. Then again I might just go out and buy a used Pentax 67 and kepp on using the F4 until Velvia runs out in 35mm. Hope someone out there can help with the Digital Back.

F4s always shows 1/3 under-exposure in "manual" mode. It does it with "all" lenses from f/3.5 to f/1.4. If i try to correct it...it always goes to 2/3 over-exposure. I have the "E" screen, and the "K" screen, and it does it with both. DP-20 is set to 0. All other dials are in right place. Any suggestions or send to Nikon? Thanks in advance. David...

Steven: - Go to this page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf4/flash/SB25/index.htm (it is a SB-25 section) scroolo down to the bottom section, there is a link to download an instruction manual. You can follow the guide inside as both speedlights are almost similar in their respective functions. Enjoy.

My seemingly indestructable F4 failed recently.. checked and have found corrosive internal contacts at the power pack section. It was charged a massive RM480-00 for replacement parts (USD100-00) and a further 100 for basic service. I like this website, tons of good info and illustrations. I am from KK and I am truly happy to find out a fellow Malaysian did this. Next, found your new Nikon F5 and equally impressed (realy like the intro picture of the KLCC). Thank You, Mr. leo. Regards, from K.K.

Roy: Make sense... I always said one can focus faster than AF with wideangles (esp the ultrawides) if you know how to make good use of the DOF scales. But AF beats MF hands down on other focal lengths. Anyway, AF is the mainstream design now, in fact, once you started using AF, who would go back to MF even if it has a MF feature ??.. yah ? Commercially, Nikon wouldn't provide one either. Actually how much would it save if it goes without an AF function ? neither I would think Nikon is generous to consider that as an option either, so just forget it.. but strange enough, you have only 1/4 of your collection is still with an MF camera.

Can anyone tell me why a super wide angle lens needs to be ,,auto focus,,? I tried out a 14mm 2.8 AF ED IF today and the focus is so sharpe and has such small movement that it's hardly ever out of focus anytime. The depth of field is also so deep that everything is in focus even at 2.8. Man ,,,have we become that lazy.,,,,,,RM
