Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. Some of the opinion presented within the site was specifically my personal experience and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. To SteveK: I had the same scare as well. You have to make sure that you have the METER COUPLING LEVER down when you use a manual lens. This should allow it to work.

Hi Gang, I tried to use my f4 today and got quite a suprise. After loading a roll of film, I hit the shutter release and instead of going to number 1 , the film rolled to frame 5 and the motor made an usual noise and then the red light next to the ASA control went on. I hit the shutter release again and nothing happend, fillaly a third time and the film started going forward to the end of the roll. So what happened? The only thing I can see is the remote terminal plug on the motor drive is misssing. Could that be the problem? Many thanks for any help. Bob Sokoler

To albour- sounds as though you have a short in the board which controls the electro-mechanical shutter release mechanism.I recently had a similar problem which required Nikon to remedy. Good luck. Hope you get off cheaper than I.

Hi, I've bought a F4s, but it has two problems ( mentionned by seller, F4 owners are gentlemen... ) : -1- the LED's in the right upper corner of the viewfinder are unreadable, i can see the colors, and determinate what to do, but it's quite irritating. when looking good, it seems glass or something is broken... -2- sometimes, mirror stays locked in open position while shooting, when depressing shutter release, the camera begins to work, but seems "too tired" to finish. i have to wait from 30sec to 1min to repress shutter release and the camera close shutter and mirror comes back, and then, it's working all normally. the battery tester on the MB21 tells me batteries are fine ( 2 led's illuminated !!) If you do have any good advice to give, thank you and sorry for my english, albour, france

I have been trying to download the manual for the F4, but all I get is an error message-the file is damaged and was unrepareable- something like that. If anybody knows any other link please post it. Thanks a lot.

The aperture display in the viewfinder indicates EE (or FEE) in P S and A modes when using a Nikon 60mm micro lens on my F4. In M mode things seem to work normal. When I close all the way down to 22, the aperture indicates 2.8 instead. I saw some reference to this error in the manual, but I can't seem to make sense out of the explanation offered. (Something about pushing some lever down) Any suggestions? BTW I love this website, I love Malaysia.
