Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. I have a Nikon Mf-24 very rare back for my F4 that I am willing to sell. Please contact me with your best offer if interested. Can ship worldwide. Accept Bank transfers or Paypal (added fees). In most cases would be cheapest/safest for me to fly with it from Finland to your country and a cash deal. :)

You can reach me at:

Just please change the thing in the middle for a @ :)

Joe,

Authorized Photo Service (APS) in Morton Grove, Il., will do it right. They're not cheap, but they are 100% Nikon. Check the classifieds in a Shutterbug magazine for the address and phone number or google them.

KEH in Atlanta also does repair. I have not used them for repair (I have used APS.), but KEH is very reputable. I've bought a number of used items from them.

Sam

Any suggestions for the best place to have an F4 cleaned and checked out? I wasn't sure who might actually be able to do repairs and make sure the unit is performing to spec.

I just sent my D300 in to have the sensor cleaned so it will be gone for a couple of weeks and I got out my trusty old F4s thinking I'd shoot some film. After just putting on a 50mm lens and then lifting the camera to my eye I remember all the things that make me love this camera so much. Firing off a few shots, I noticed how supremely satisfying just the sound of this camera is. Compared to the D300, my F4s feels like it's made out of a solid block of metal. It sits in my hands better than the D300 and when I look through the viewfinder I feel more connected with my subject. So much less to think about than with the D300- just choose an exposure, focus, compose, and shoot.

Granted I haven't shot with a D3 yet, but if someone could make a compact digital back for the F4s I'd have my perfect camera- solid, simple, inspiring. Maybe someone could make a sensor and controller the size of a roll of film with the sensor extending out and the same thickness as film- plop it in and fire away!

Until then, I'm going to shoot all the film I can with this great camera.

I shot a roll of film with my F4 and the images had streaks of light and a smokey background. So far I have ran 4 rolls and at least 15 images have this problem. I was shooting in studio with 125/ASA 100 and sometimes the shutter would stay open after pressing the release button. Any ideas?
