Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon F4 Series Professional SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

Nikon F4 - The first F-class professional camera model that offers autofocusing. It was regarded as one of the most versatile F-model of all time as virtually all Nikkor lenses that produced thus far be used EFFECTIVELY with the camera. It was also the first F-class SLR that virtually depends on electronic/barry power all its function. Despite its AF features were beginning to shown some sign of age when compared with many modern Nikon SAF models that kept surfacing; the Nikon F4 still remains a hot favorite among many working pro and serious amateurs. This section is aimed to supplement the content of the Nikon F4 site to address other issues not being addressed in the site and you may also make good use of it to share common knowledge & exchanging experience with the camera. Some of the opinion presented within the site was specifically my personal experience and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. tonvt: I have not noticed your observation in my F4, probably mine was bought in Japan way back in ealry '90 during a short business trip to the orient. Well, this is an interesting find too, probably a US market version of the F4 only has such unique engraving ? Well, IS there any other users having similar marks ? Please psot your findings for all of us to share. I agreed fully with some of the earlier inputs, indeed - this is a very nicely designed website. WH.

Jeff: This is an interesting question indeed. Theoretically, the G-series lenses should work in Program AE only. I am not particularly sure and even I have asked Nikon, the sales guy is not giving me a satisfactory answer. I would love to have a third opinion as well. Naturally, other modes in the F4 (for sure Av and manual will not work and I cannot possible think how the Tv mode works in such combinations as well. Come to think of it, the G- series lenses is such a joke to Nikon fans...

Hi, I just purchased a used Nikon F4 having always admired this model. I noticed next to the serial number on the top right back a slightly shadowed USA next to the serial number which has to be held at an angle to be seen. Any reason for this? Thank you tonyt

I have been using a Nikon FE and a FM2 for many years. Perhaps it was time to shift to an AF body where I can still use my manual focus lenses. I am considering between an used N8080s and a F4 and finally has decided to settle with the latter - much due to comprehensiveness of information available in this great Nikon web resource. Just thought of leaving a note to thank the creator for his insight reviews to shed some lights for people like me. Have a good day. You bet I will be coming back for more visits... from Tucson, USA.

Roy: I do hope the Canon 300D can inspire Nikon to bring down the prices of Digital SLRs. THe Nikon D1x series and the D100 has a gap in between. I would like to see a F100 kind of Digi SLR model with lower entry price appearig although the D1 series is using the F100 largely as the backbone. Well, 12 million pixels Digi-SLR with F100's structure at D100 price is what I have been waiting for. Until then, I would rather be using my F4s, ha ha ...

I have been using a Nikon F4s plus a FM2n with 6 lenses for quite some years. This camera is good, almost never failed me in assignments On a recent trip, I accidentally dropped the camera in a mud puddle on the waterlogged pitch, soaped and muddy but the camera is still functioning. The power pack has leaked some water inside the circuitry. Went back for Nikon and got it fixed - cost me a bomb ! Nikon service charges was getting stiff lately. Anyway, this website is damn good, almost the best you can find on the web today. I preferred this over the Nikonian's site. I have been to this site before but somehow has missed it, probably it is new as indicated. It is a superb effort to keep such a fine website online. Thanks.

Hi all,,,I just purchased a used Nikon F4s and being an F2s user for 27 years this is the icing on the cake to me. I am a Pro Photographer and I can't quite move on to digital,,,not yet anyway. The F2s with the MD2/MB1 combo was my only camera for years and I still have 4 of them with the Motors etc. I wanted to get into digital but the high cost and small format don't catch my attention but I was in a camera store about 2 months ago and played around with a used F4s . That's all I needed to keep on using film cameras . Also it can use all my 18 lenses that I cherish . I bought a Nikon 35-70 AF-D Zoom as well and together I can't find a better source to make excellant pictures. I will never sell my F2s's or my older lenses and I allways shoot with 4 cameras to avoid lens changing while shooting . I mainly shoot pictures of navy ships now and onboard the ships the salty air can ruin a camera no mater how much it cost so I use a Nikon EM for most of the ocean spray shots with used Vivitar series 1 lenses that are cheap to buy and it doesn't hurt too much when I chuck them over the rails. But , getting back to digital , I don't think they can stand up to the kind of abuse that I put can put them through so. The F4s will be my best camera in my bag for everything but navy pictures and it fits me like a glove.,,,,,,why can't anyone else make a camera that feels so good to use?,,,,,,,,,RM

After all the years of undecding whether to go AF. Thanks to this website - I have finally bought a Nikon F4, an AF 28-70mm zoom and a Micro-Nikkor ED 200mm prime. I do have all my MF prime Nikkors retained. This is a solid camera, aged but NOT out - I have no regrets, should I need it the AF serves me well, probably my kind of photography requires me to think before I shoot. I like the Matrix metering - something that way exceeeds my expectation in metering accuracy. I like this website too, I have spent a great deal of time reading it and it is detailed, neutal in its views and has a great board anytime to serve individual needs. Website like this is hard to come by, I salute all the effort in making it possible ! Nebraska, US.

There were some gorgeous images of the MF-24 250 exp. Bulk film back with related system accessories such as MZ-1 and Bulk Film loader have been uploaded at:

All images courtesy of Mr. Mr. Kuo-Hsiung Huang <khuang@mn.rr.com>. Thanks for the contributions. Further, for those who wishes to find the Instruction Manual for MF-24, it has been uploaded earlier, check for the link at the similar page (EXCEPT for the bulk film feature, it is good enough to be the instruction for the MF-23 as well).
