Pardon me if this question has been asked before, but as I'm a long-time F3HP user now in the process of upgrading to an F4, I've not had an interest in this subject before.
Is there a registry or list of F4 serial numbers versus manufacture date as there was compiled for the F3 series? I am in the market for a good used F4, and want to be able to establish how old the camera is and what factory mods may have been incorporated into it before I buy one. Thanks for the assistance. The Nikon SB-24 speedlight is the ORIGINAL companion flash for the Nikon F4. The Subsequent SB-25, 26, 27, 28 and so on comes after. So, it is a perfect match for the Nikon F4.3. From : Herbie (herbwalsh@yahoo.com)

I am gald to see this site (as well as forum) geting momentum in popularity. The Nikon F4 is a GREAT camera by any standard. A logical upgrade choice for current MF-Nikon F3 users. I think one way is, we should also co-promote this place for mutual sharing/usage/reference. Overall, this is the best info site on Nikon one can find on the web today. Good job ! Regards, Jim.5. What a great site! I just bought a F4s, and I'm hoping someone here can answer a question regarding matrix metering. Essentially, I'm wondering how matrix metering deals with filters and polarizers. From what I've read, matrix metering uses several techniques in identifying correct exposure that require the CPU to know the absolute level of light in the scene. For example, if the sun is in the frame, the camera knows it's the sun by its absolute (not relative) intensity. This is why lenses must have the speed indexing lug on their mount. In order to know absolute light levels, the camera must know how fast the lens is. Things like ND filters and polarizers prevent the camera from knowing the light levels in the scene being metered. Under these conditions, how does matrix metering provide correct exposure (or does it)? Any info on this subject (or links to resources) will be appreciated! Happy shooting!! ------remove _nospam_ to send e-mail------6. From : Donald (camp_notdavid@hotmail.com)

Nikon F4 upgrades >? I think it has been addressed somewhere in this site. From what I understand, they are minor - mastly the early plastic parts found in somehwerea and Nikon decided to improved the strength of these corners and levers. Hope it helps. Someone did a Nion F3 series number references site hope we can see an equivalent on the F4 (tedious..) I know.7. From : Kitt (kneoground2004@yahoo.com)

Thank you for the wonderful Nikon Site. It has helped me greatly in deciding which cameras to buy. I finally got an F4s-an E-Bay purchase for less than $300! This camera is worth 5 times that much to me. What a fantastic camera. Now I can sell my much loved but limited 6006's and practically pay for the f4.This will probably be the last autofocus fiml camera I will ever buy, only because there is noplace but down to go from here! The difference in build quality in this pro camera compared to the prosumer cameras is like night and day, and it has wisened me up to a closely guarded secret in the photography world. The pros don't necessarily know more that the ardent amateur, they just have better equipment. Once you learn the basics, this camera will give you great images every time.Steve.9. any news on a digital data back for the F4s would be good news. I have been thinking of getting a d70s but would have to sell my 4 to do so.10.
