I bought a second hand Nikon FA.
Should the pin where the mirror rests on be foamed ?
Mine is not, and makes a rather loud "clack" when the shutter is released...
Thanks

Whenever I load a new film into my Nikon FA, it won't take photos unless I am pressing the film plane indicator button at the same time, even though I am trying to take distance shots on a zoom lens. I played around and somehow got it working on the last film, my first one, but it's doing it again now with the second film. How do I get it to wind on and take photos without pressing the indicator please? It's driving me nuts.

I used an FA Nikon from the early 80's to 2001. My great greatgrand son has used it for almost four years in high school. He also has a D60 Nikon SLR, but he loves the FA and it is still going strong.

I bought an FA in 1983 and used it extensively until 1992 when it appeared to jam (stop functioning). Most un-Nikon like. Replacement batteries (apparently) did not make it operable. I considered at the time sending it for repair assuming it was the electronics, but at the time could not afford to do so and put the camera away.
I have just rediscovered it, put a further set of batteries in it (slightly larger 2 x 3V.) than 3 x 1.5V) just to see what would happen and lo-and-behold -it now works perfectly! This is after (probably entirely unnecessary) abandonment for 16 years! I will now press it back into service for 35mm slides as a beautifully small and light backup to my F4S and D300.
