I have a Nikon FA that I bough used about 10 years ago. When I bought it I noticed that the battery drained even when the camera was in the off position if I let it sit for about one week. Now the meter is bad and will overexpose about 4 stops, although the TTL meter used for the flash seems fine. Is there anyone who can tell me what might be going on? Are there two different photosensors for the TTL meter and the normal meter? James

Please note the following correction: "In manual mode the compensation dial has no effect on the ambient exposure but it will affect your TTL flash."

Re:TTL Flash on Nikon FA
I read the posting of James Rosenthal on Dec 6, 2001. Yes, the FA will revert to 1/250 sec shutter speed with a dedicated flash when the camera is used in any mode except manual, but, in manual mode you still have TTL flash and you can set the shutter speed to whatever you want and the compensation dial will also work. In manual mode the compensation dial has no effect except on the ambient exposure but it will affect your TTL flash. So, for fill flash outdoors you can meter the background and set your shutter speed and aperture in manual mode. Dial in -1 compensation (or whatever compensation you want)on the camera, turn on your dedicated flash and fire away.

Hello All, Two questions: first, does anyone know where in NYC (or whom) might have a finger grip for the Nikon FA? I am about to acquire one in excellent + condition for $200.oo USD. However, the original owner had an MD-15 motodrive on the FA body, and the original finger grip was lost...Since I don't need the speed of the motordrive, and would prefer a lighter, smaller Nikon body anyway, I now need a replacement finger grip. Any idea where to obtain one either in NYC or the USA? I see the recommendation to search on Ebay, but was wondering if there are any other suggestions.
Second, this body dates from circa 1985 (Serial Number 5xxxx). Is $200.oo a reasonable price for this camera body in excellent condition? Thank You, Robert DeCandido, PhD NYC
