I've just purchased a chrome model No 5046735 can anyone tell me who owned it originally and when it was made? I'm very pleased with it everything seems to work OK; myonly reservation is the lack of longer shutter speed as in my FE (down to 8 seconds) merry xmass to all

I just dug my FA out of the closet. I haven't used it in over 10 years. One of the reasons I quit using it was the film advance lever would get stuck. Was this a common problem? Is it worth repairing? Thanks, Ray

With new batteries installed, the shutter will do nothing when button is pushed. All other functions seem normal. It has been in storage for quite a long time.

Hi Nathan, Unfortunately with the shortage of spare parts for the Nikon FA, all I can suggest is for your friend to pay for the cost of another secondhand FA body to replace the damaged one. Since it was the shutter assembly that was damaged (and titanium honeycombed shutters have been discontinued for quite a long time), you can argue that the heart of the camera has been destroyed and the only way is to get another camera. Regards, Aaron

To Whomever is Reading: I purchased a Nikon F/A back in 1994 for $400.00 Canadian used. There was a problem with the light meter, so I sent it to Nikon Canada for repair and cleaning with no problems. Then I made the mistake of lending the camera to a friend taking a trip and the camera was damaged. I sent it in again but now there is a lack of parts absolutely everywhere. All I am after is a shutter curtain, and a gear system for the film advancer. Does anyone know of a person or business that has access to F/A parts or someone that has an F/A for sale that can be used for parts?

I'm considering buying a black bodied FA with a 28mm f:2.8 AIs. (GB£400) It seems to be in excellent condition with no signs of wear. I read somewhere (on this site?) that if I wote to Nikon they would be able to give me a production date of body and lens. However, Nikon have replied saying that they cannot help!
Does anyone know how I can date this camera? Do you have a body with a number near 5307*** or a lens number 661*** and do you know the ages of yours? If you can help, please write me! Many thanks. (I found a useful site for an FA instruction manual thanks to another contributor here - thanks very much for this, and all the other useful info)

Hi Teo,
Unfortunately, the FA does not have an AE-Lock. So far I've read 2 reasons. FA was the first try with AMP (the grandfather of matrix metering) and the Nikon engineers were so confident that they decided not to put in an AE Lock.
The other story I've heard (which is more believable) is that the FA uses stop down metering when you release the shutter, so that it can compensate for AI lenses used in P and S modes. With that stop down metering, an AE Lock would be redundant since after you made your lock the camera would meter again and override the lock.
Regards,
Aaron
