Nikon FA - Message Board/Guestbook

In many ways, the Nikon FA brought a lot of fond memories of the old days. Since it has discontinued from a fine series of manual focus SLRs brought by Nikon, you may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among yourself. You may also use this message board as a guestbook. I hope this convenience provided here can be of useful to you.

Pete - FA needs an AI-coupled lens. You may be able to AI-modify your lens or have it done. Read more @ http://www.zi.ku.dk/personal/lhhansen/photo/FullAImod.htm and http://www.zi.ku.dk/personal/lhhansen/photo/repair/aimod/aimod.htm

I have recently purchased a Nikkor-N.C Auto f2.8 24mm lens serial no.374589. I am a newcomer to the Nikon system and have attached the above lens to my recently purchased nikon fa. Forgive my ignorance, but the body does not seem to recognise any aperture setting regarding either shutter speed or film speed. I appreciate that my purchase of the lens may have been a little hasty, but i was led to believe that the lens was fully compatible with the Nikon fa. Anwers & help? many thanks...

I have two FA bodies. The other day, I was just cycling the shutter and on one of the bodies, the process just stopped part way. I looked at the lens and it was still stopped down, the mirror had not flipped up and I didn't hear the shutter fire. I thought that it may have been my batteries so I changed those - but the firing process did not finish - I also tried mounting it on my MD15. I tried turning the shutter dial to M250 but that also didn't work to reset it. I took the lens off at which point the aperture pin on the lens sprung to the "at rest" position - the aperture set arm in the camera was in the down position (should be at top position). I opened up the back and closed it. When I half depressed the shutter release, the C250 displayed in the viewfinder. But when I fully depressed the shutter release, the display would disappear. I would not be able to get this to display again until some time later. All the while, I am not able to complete the shutter firing sequence to "unjam" my FA. Any one have any ideas on how to fix this? Is this a mechanical problem? electrical problem? This is a shame since as I mentioned before, I have two FA bodies, one chrome and one black and this shutter problem HAS to happen to my black :-(

There are two red lights that might appear in the viewfinder: a flash-ready light in the upper left and a light along the right side that turns on if you have set the exposure compensation dial. Does that make sense? Maybe you had a flash attached or were pushing the ASA? I'll email you a pdf of the manual, courtesy of a French site that someone has posted a link to on this board.
