Hai,
I bought my used FA complete with MD-15 way back in 1986 & took many great pictures with it. I must say that the metering system at that time was one of the best. I've never nad any problems until recently, when the shutter jammed. I've sent it to the S'pore agent but they can't repair as there are no spare parts available. I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here & suggest anywhere I can send my FA for repairs. I've grown quite attached to this camera & would really appreciate any help.
Many thanks.
Zul

My first SLR was an FA purchased in 87. While I do quite a bit of my work with large and medium format cameras now, I have always had my FA with me for searching out subjects, macro work, family, etc etc. About an estimated 1100 rolls through the camera and jam and destroy the shutter. My question is, should i send this camera in to be repaired (I know i am looking at about $350) or purchase a "new" used one from Ebay.

Quote from LARS: "FA supports TTL OTF flash, I will recommend that you get a Nikon TTL compatiple flash unit. Metz, Vivtar and Sunpak etc. all make such units. The FA has the most simple type of TTL OTF flash control, so there is no need to get a flash unit with extra support for an autofocus camera, unless you have a such or intend to get one soon. Of Nikon's own Speedlights I can highly recommend the SB-15.
-------------------------------------------
Does anyone know what the specific model numbers are of the
SUNPAK, METZ, and VIVITAR flash units are that are best for
the Nikon FA ? I dont trust the camera store salesman to
provide me the best unit and there is no way to tell from the
camera mail order web sites? Also, as Lars recommends the
Nikon SB-15, is it still in production and available new ?
Wonder how much it costs compared to comparable units from
SUNPAK, or VIVITAR ?
Last, and I am embarrassed to ask this, what does OTF mean
when used to describe flash?

Nikon has recently announced the FMA3 camera, and from looking at the latest press release, it seems very much alike the FA, with tiny changes, such us: DX films recognition and an AE lock button.
I’m sure everyone here wishes to see a review on it….
I was thinking of buying the new SB50 for my FA, but can’t seem to find any information on the Nikon site, on how compatible is it to the FA and it’s TTL mechanism,
Although in the specs its says it supports power zoom and TTL but not data exchange??
What do they mean by that?

Simon - much advice can be had on the NikonMF mailing list @ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NikonMF
Most Nikon related web pages is indexed @ http://www.nikonlinks.com
The beauty of the Nikon System is its unparalelled compatibility. Most new (AF) lenses will give you full functionaly on the FA. Also FA shares accesories with the FM/FE camera family, meaning that data backs, focusing screens and motor drives for the still available new FM2 and the new FM3A will fit. Which lenses to get very much depends on where you're photographic interests are.

Hi
Please excuse my ignorance but I have recently acquired an FA from my fathers estate. I am ignorant as to where I might buy accessories for it. Will I have to concentrate on second hand stuff ? The only additoinal lens my father had was a Nikkor 135/2.8. What other lenses would I be best purchasing first?
Are there any recommendations for good web sites to buy things from (preferably in the UK).
As you can tell I'm new to all this so any additional advice would be gratefully recieved.
Best wishes - Simon
