Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. Hi all, Just a quick note to advise that the Minolta Manual Focus Convention scheduled for September 2-5 in New York City is progressing ahead very smoothly. A lot of interest has been shown from keen Minolta users around the world and we expect to have a great time over the Labor Day long weekend in NYC. At this stage we expect to have between 20 and 25 photographers and collectors attending the get-together.
To find out more about the convention, please visit the dedicated NYC Convention page at the Rokkor Files at
http://www.rokkorfiles.com/nyc.htm. Full details of the itinerary and accomodation costs etc are available there.
The convention will be a great way to see New York with experienced guides who are all photographers, and to make friendships with other photographers and camera collectors from around the world. Accomodation costs are very reasonable (from $101 per day for a private room for the three nights of the convention), so there's no reason not to come to NYC. Best wishes and I hope to see you in NYC! Antony Hands www.rokkorfiles.com3. From : David Manne (davidmanne@internode.on.net)

I have a XD7 that recently acquired a problem. The battery drains extremely rapidly, seldom lasting longer than a week. What's the problem and what can I do about it? Many thanks4. From : Michael Salley (michaelsalley@bellsouth.net)

I require assistance with my XD11 - anybody with ANY ideas is begged to email me. As you know, the XD11 shows the selected shutter speed down below the image in the viewfinder. Somehow, I don't know how, the shutter speed dial on top and the shutter speed readout at the bottom of the image have become unsynchronized - there are about 4 positions difference. Is there any way to fix this? Please advise, MichaelSalley@bellsouth.net5. From : Aaron Lewis (strangebread@yahoo.com)

I am working with a Minolta Dimage 7i 5.0 megapixel camera. I am using it to do stop motion photography of particles being pulled into a syphon with a strobe light. Does anyone know if it is at all possible to extend the bulb exposure beyond 30 sec. I don't think it is, but someone may know something that I do not. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thank you for your time.7. From : Tom Hawkins (thawkins@integrity.com)

I have four manual focus Mioltas (SRT101, XG1, XD11 and X700) that I frequently use. I was attempting to do some slow synch flash photography with the XD11 using a Sunpak 433D flash. Does this camera not do slow sych? I could not select a manual shutter speed with the flash attached and turned on as the synch speed was automatically selected by the flash. Am I mistaken about this or is there something wrong with the camera body? Otherwise it is a great camera as are all of my minoltas!! Tom Hawkins8. From : Michael Salley (michaelsalley@bellsouth.net)

I need some advice about lens selection. Does anybody have any experience with the Sears 70-210mm MF lens for Minolta cameras? Even heard anything about them? I have acquired one off eBay. I paid $15 and change including shipping, so it's really kind of an experiment that I can afford anyway. I just wondered if anybody here owned one or had heard of them and could email me and tell me about the quality of this lens. Any secret problems or manufacturing flaws I need to look for?
Please advise - even info about sears lens quality in general is appreciated. I realize that the more you pay for a lens, the more you get out of it, but in my experience none of the film I shoot (Fujifilm Super HQ 200 and Superia XTRA 400) and ESPECIALLY none of the paper the local printers use (unknown, but it's pretty coarse) can produce as good a print as my negatives show, so there's no point in getting a supernice lens if they can't make a decently resolved print out of it anyway. Just let me know if you know about sears lenses - they enjoyed a partnership with Ricoh for a while a while back, but I don't know if this is good or bad. Michael Salley9. Hello! I just obtained an XD-11 via eBay -- it looks very nice and I'm looking forward to running some film through it. I need some advise on using electronic flash. I don't have a Minolta X flash unit so I'm not sure about aperture settings when using flash. If I set my shutter to 1/100 because of the flash unit being available, how do I determine the aperture? Obviously, if I try to let the camera determine the aperture it will be reading from available light, not the flash. Can anyone advise?
Also -- any other good tips for an amateur? Thanks. Please replay here and also to my email, crew1955@hotmail.com. Best Regards, Dave10.
