Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. I don't think that anyone would argue that the XK was a well thought out camera. But the biggest drawback it had was not the body, but the Rokkor-X lenses. Minolta hit all the bases as far as focal lengths, however the quality of the images was not really on par with Nikon or Canon. I used Minolta for a good 10 years, until I borrowed a friend's Nikon F2. Within a month I had traded all my Minolta gear in for Nikon and I never looked back. - Scott 3. Hello all. I have a Minolta XD-11 in excellent condition, except ... there is something awry in the battery compartment.
I substituted a battery holder/cap out of a Minolta XG-9, and the XD-11 lit up beautifully. Except for a tiny bit of flaking from where corrosion has apparently been cleaned off, there does not appear to be anything wrong with the XD-11 battery holder/cap.
Does anyone have (or could take) a picture of the interior of an XD-11 holder/cap? I would like to see if there is a little circuit path inside the cap, which mine might be missing. I hope to do a fix. Thx!4. From : kenneth michael eggett (k.eggett@ntlworld.com)

I am looking for the right top cover for minolta XM (older edition, with DIN/ISO scale on the back). I will consider buying dead camera for parts.
If someone know how to remove the decoration ring under the film advance lever (thing that holds the right top cover attached to the body). I have made a proper tool fot it, but it rotates endlessly (in either direction).6. From : Greg Pederson (gpederson_7@hotmail.com)

I also had the dark shutter speed view finder. As already documented, the fault lies in a small mirror that falls off (due to adhesive degradation over time) and no longer reflects light to the light pipe. I used aluminum foil and a drop of silicone glue...works good as new :)7. From : Allen Johnson (fairway.house@btinternet.com)

I have an 1986 Minolta 7000 AF. It will work in program mode but will not allow shutter or aperture modes to be selected. Also the continuous or self-timer shutter facilities cannot be used. I have tried three different lenses - no response. If I press any buttons to select above options the screen in the viewfinder and on top of the body disappear. I feel it may be the internal battery but cannot find anyone can help.So far??9. From : Dave (dhayward@ymcalakecounty.org)

My son had used my old Minolta XK for a photography class in HS, took it with him to college and now returned it in non functioning condition. I would like to get it repaired but am unsure as to how to proceed since it is a 30 year old camera.
Thanks,

Hi, thanks to those who advised me and I pass on these tips.
The reason some XK or XM or X-1 shutter speed scales is so dull in the viewfinder is that in the AE finder there is a tiny mirror and it becomes "unglued". Tell tale sign is it "rattling around" in the finder if you take it off and gentlty shake it.
Removeing the ASA and speed dial takes a little thought and I took photos (the only useful thing digital does that film can not)as I went along to note the position of everything, then removing the finder top and turn over, there you will see the small sloping rest for where the mirror should go. Locating the tiny mirror may take a while if it's worked its way into the finders guts.
Also I've fixed broken finder latch catch when it would not lock, several contact strips behind the on off switch and got a few XK or XMs back to fully working.
ANYONE able to advise why one particular XM does not stay open when B is kept pressed ? I think it also has a few of the contacts in the body less than "normal" XM. regards kevin more-use2uminolta4me on ebay or e-mail kandjkburton@tiscali.co.uk
