Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for this great camera and its system. Hello there from New Zealand. I have recently bought an XD-7 in lovely cosmetic condition. Sadly, I think I have discovered the reason why the seller chose to send it to me without batteries inside. I popped in fresh batteries immediately it arrived and within days they are down to a voltage of 1.1V and the viewfinder LEDS are going quite dim. I suspect there must be a short circuit somewhere inside the camera's electrics. Is this a known 'issue' with the XD-7/XD-11 or have I struck an unusual problem? So far I've done a basic Google search, but have not yet gone through the archives of this list. Thanks in anticipation for any help or advice anyone can offer. Regards, Richard.4. Je possède un MINOLTA XD7 depuis 1980. Le boitier est en panne (problème électronique : pas de déclenchement automatique des vitesses). A Garnett: I did extensive research on this myself, and the conclusion is a resounding no. Minolta has just released their first digital SLR, the Maxxum 7D, which is getting pretty good reviews (but not as good as the Canon 20D.) However, the 7D is based on Minolta's line of AF cameras. When these were introduced in the early 80s, Minolta abandoned all compatibility with the MC/MD range of lenses. So, the cameras discussed on this forum were essentially frozen in time 25 years ago. With that in mind, these seem to be the most realistic options: 1> sell everything on ebay and go digital. Unless you have a very rare lens or two (and let me know if you do) you'll get almost nothing for your existing equipment. A dime on the dollar. Certainly not enough to cover the $1600 the 7D costs. 2> Keep your existing equipment and cover your digital needs with a 35mm scanner. The Minolta Dimage 5400 and Nikon Coolscan V ED are good choices. These run about $600, and you still have to have your film processed, but it's $1000 less than the 7D (which will only have the one normal lens at that price, remember.) 3> Stick with film, but have a PhotoCD made when the film is processed. For now, that's what I'm doing. I'm using Helix in Chicago via mail order. But you can't be in a hurry: it takes over a week. 4> Stick with film, and ignore digital completely. Just one of the options. All of this assumes you're an amateur and not a pro shooter. If you're a pro, sell or throw out your film stuff immediately and go digital. I'm a graphic designer, so I know exactly what's happening in the pro realm. Let us know which way you decide to go.9. From : A Garnett (agarnett@gmail.com)

I'm a newbie to this board. I have a Minolta XD7 and all its lens. Is there a Minolta Digital SLR that would be compatible? If there is a converter, are the image results really good?

I have been looking for some time for the Minolta Intervalometer that was part of the accessory line for the Minolta XK Motor camera system. It was cylindrical in shape and attached to the motor drives electrical release on top of the motor drive grip. I am also looking for the external battery pack that was made for this camera. It was a flat pack with a cord that held 10 AA batteries and could be placed in your pocket to keep the batteries warm during cold weather conditions. Have you run across these two items? Would really like to acquire them. S. Upchurch
