Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. OK, so I was given a Minolta Maxxum 7000, with all the lovely lenses and attatchments, some film too, and I am grateful, truly I am... However, and I promise you, I am an intelligent person, I cannot find where the batteries go! THis thing is dead in the water and I cannot figure out where to put them. I went through the manual on here and all I can find reference to is a battery pack, do I need one of those? I am begining to feel as if this gift is quickly becoming a gag gift...
Any and all help would be truly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Shannon4. From : Stephen Hawk (hawk@catalogdesign.com)

Ian: a reflex lens uses internal mirrors and optics to "fold" the light path. This makes for a lighter and more compact lens than an equivalent straight-tube lens. I have a 500mm MF reflex that I use with good results on my XD-11. It's about the size of a small coffee can, compared to what would be about a 20" long normal 500mm telephoto. There are two issues: there is only one f-stop, and highlights are small transparent "donuts" rather than dots, which some people find objectionable. I'm guesiing the AF version will fit your 7000. There's a bunch of detail about the manual focus version of this lens here:

MINOLTA 7000i SLR CAMERA + ITS FLASH 3200i
22/5/2007
Dear Sir:
I have a Minolta 7000i Camera and its Flash 3200i which I purchased in USA in 1990. Sudddenly some problem has started developing. Although camera is working but battey compartment from outside has broken. There are some problems in Flash too and its lamp is not working. First of all, I am wondering if spare parts are available and where it can be serviced? Since March 2006, Sony has taken over Minolta and Konica. Sony India can not provide technical service. Who can provide it? Request you to provide address, phone etc.
Thank you and best regards,
S.K. AGARWAL
