Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. In response of the message regarding the symbols and numbers on the dial on the bottom of an X1/XK/XM:
12-20-36 refers to number of exposures on the film you put into the camera. If you are using a 36 exposure roll of film, set the dial to 36.
"sun" means daylight balanced colour slide film
"bulb" means tungsten balanced colour slide film
"neg" means colour film for prints
the last symbol is not a "print", but means black&white film.
This dial does not set anything in the body, it is just a reminder about the kind of film you have in the camera.
The later version of the X1/XK/XM had a film memo holder instead of the ASA/DIN conversion table on the back; nevertheless the dial remained on the bottom, since it was an extra "safety" (one could loose the film box lid) and there was no need to make a different bottom plate.2. I have just purchased a X-1 (Japan version of xk). The x1 has a control on the bottom of body next to the battery door. It has the numbers 12,20,and 36 as scale and a rotating switch with the symbols of sun, bulb, "neg" and what I assume is a print. Can anyone help me with this function? I have hauled around Minoltas Reflex Photography book by Wolfe for over 25 years but does not cover non-usa import version. Have used the XE-7 for 21 years trouble-free. As far as questions on repair, with the old and first generation IC's in these slr's I have been told parts will be slim to none. If it works, ENJOY! If it doesn't it makes a great looking paper weight.5. From : Owen Montgomery (Canzay@excite.com)

Im a newby to the photography world and I just received this camera from my father. He does not have the manual for it so im a little confused on what is wrong with it. Im not sure if this is normal but the camera only allows me to take a photo when I use the timer....also when I go to wind the film after taking the picture the flim doesnt move. I'm really confused and I am going to take it to a camera store tommrow see what they say but any input would be a HUGE help to me. Thxs.

hello fols, I have an XD-11 which, unfortunately, needs parts. The winding mechanism has popped its spring,or whatever it is that happens when the winding mechanism stops functioning. Anyway, if anyone has a parts camera for sale or knows of someone who could helpme out, I'd love to hear from you. Please drop me a line. Thanks Melonie8. From : chris casserly (jcasserly@att.com)

Hi! I have both XK and XK-M bodies vintage '77 or '78. Both need a little work. Local dealers offer little advice or encouragement. Does Minolta (or anyone else) till service them? Thanks, Chris Casserly9. From : Dave Sanney (dsanney@acay.com.au)

In response to the question by K. Boudreau regarding battery types for the XD-7/11: It takes two 1.5 volt silver-oxide batteries, Eveready S76 or equivalent". That's according to the manual.
