Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. Answer to Mr Muller's question. The dust specks that you see are not in the way of the photo - unless the lens is dirty. Use a soft brush - new woman's make up brush is good, to dust off the mirror and the ground glass above. It is really not worth taking the camera apart for minor spots of dirt. The dirt on the inside of the viewfinder is difficult to get to - the top has to come off. If it is really bad let me know and I can explain how to do it.2. From : C. Good Day! Madam/Sir A week ago I brought a Minolta XD-7 secondhand. What I have subsequently discovered is the there seem to be tiny black spots behind or in the surface that is reflected on the mirror in the inside of the camera. Do you think it might be dust behind this small square plate or do you think it is something else? Do you think it can be removed or repaired and how much will it cost me? (This is the first time I am using this type of camera so excuse the ignorance). Hope to hear from you as soon as possible. Best regards C. Muller

At one point I had three XD-11s until my first was stolen in or around 1978. It was the black bodied model. Since then I have two silver XD-11s with the first dating back to about 1978 and the second 1985. In 1985 I ran a photo store and came across a XD-11 body in the waste can of a camera repair depot. To my surprise I was able to restore this camera for less than $100 (US) with the assistance of my own repairman and Minolta.
I shipped it to Minolta for final adjusting. The camera only needed the top cover and the fake leatherette covering repaired to look new. Both cameras have been used over the years by myself but never lost their new like qualities. Beautiful cameras that are treasures that will be passed onto to my family. My fondness for the XD-11 has not changed in all these years although I added the X-700 and X-570 to my staple of Minoltas that I cherish. I have several Minolta lens and many accessories but none are for sale. These are part of my history, my life, and will not be sold even though today I do most of my photography with digital cameras of 3.4 MP and above. Once in a while I get out my Minoltas and use them. I never thought I would say I "love" anything that doesn't have breath, but I do love the Minolta XD-11s and the X-700/X-570 cameras. Wow! I said that! :-) Felt good!4. Minolta XD11 / SLR I have this camera, I bought it new 23 yrs. ago. I love it because I can be more creative with my shots. It seems to me that today's cameras are nice point and shoot ones,I have a couple of those also, but the end result is really someone else's creativity. I mean somebody else's focus, aperture and lenses. I'm looking for a motorized film advance to put on it. Where could I find one if you know? Mark6. From : West Virginia (retrac@sunlitsurf.com)
