Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. is there an opportunity to connect directly with Minolta to discuss repairs of their older models (eg:XK's and SRT's) or must we rely on outside resources?....does anyone know an EMail for 'Minolta repair' to establish dialogue on this issue? help.2. From : Bert Janssen (hcmjanssen@hotmail.com)

Shutterspeeds of the XD-7 on auto mode can be as fast as 1/2300; due to the "final check" metering feature. Also 30 to 60 seconds are possible, but this depends on batterystrength and the camera itself. There may be cameras which only reach 30 seconds, while others reach 60 seconds.
Batteries for the XD and XM series can be two SR44 (silveroxid), two LR44 (alkaline) or one CR1/3N (3V lithium). The SR44 and LR44 have a difference of 0,05V, which is neglectable. These batteries can also be used in the XE-, XG- and X-series bodies, which is very convenient if you own several of these bodies. The SRT-series use the PX-625 mercury based battery, which is now being discontinued. There are however stocks left and alternatives are available, although the body electronics may have to be adapted.
Some corrections/additions to the information on the XM-series: there have been 6 (six) viewfinders for the XK/XM series: AE (with CdS-cells, not suitable for motordrive operation), AE-S (with silicon cells and LED indication), Match-Needle (metering only, no auto mode and very rare to find because it was only made in small numbers during a limited period of time!), Plain (no metering), High Magnification (no metering) and Waist-Level (also no metering).
There have been 11 (eleven) viewfinder screens: P (split image), M (microprisms, fitted to most SLRs between 1960 and 1975), PM (both features as before, fitted to all newer Minoltas), AP (diagonal split image), G (plain matt), L (matt with chequers pattern), H (clear with haircrosses), S (clear with crosslines, "periscope style"), C1, C2, C3 (all clear with microprism center, for different lensranges). My favourite screen is type G; for architectural work I would like to have type L, but this is rather scarce. I have never seen a type AP, but it would be great for general photography. Instead I sometimes use type PM, sometimes type P.3. From : richard (EYEPHOT@aol.com)

i own a XD7 for several years now and i still think it is a great camera. i use it very much. however the mechanism that transfers the aperture setting of the lens to the camera is broken. there do not seem to be any spare parts any more. can anybody give me a hint? has anybody a broken XD7 (maybe with defect electronics) around? would be great!

Hi, I recently acquired a Minolta XK with a metered finder.Everything seems to be working correctly, but I seem to have one problem...the meter is barely visable in the viewfinder, even in bright sunlight. If I take a bright flashlight and point it right at the small window on the top of prism/finder I can see the meter, but still not as bright as I suspect it should be. Am I doing something wrong, or is there some sort of defect in the prism/finder that is keeping the ambient light from illuminating the meter? If anyone has an answer, please email me, I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks,

I live in Hong Kong. I like using manual camera. I start the interest of photography with X-700 at early 90s. But I fell disappoint that Minolta have no higher grade manual camera so I change to use Canon new F-1 and FD lens.
Recently, I saw XM body in 2nd shop, I were attracted by its great outlook and want to seek the information about it. I have sent e-mail to Minolta customer devision, but they reply that this camera is very old and they have not keep its information.
With the help of my friend, I find this wed site. It is wonderful. I were very happy and read through it. I have a better understanding of that great camera. This activate my wish to buy a XM camera. body. Do anyone who want to sell a good working condition XM body please contact me.
Thank you!

I own an XK and wanted to know what equivalent battery covers will work on the XK. I think the XK uses 2 MS76 batteries. In other words, can a battery cover from an XG-7, XD-11 serve as a good substitute?
Much appreciated and thanks in advance.

On where to buy an XK Motor: Sometimes they will show up at Adorama and Camera traders ltd www.adoramaphoto.com; www.cameratradersltd.com Adorama has one that is missing the battery pack (at least they did). Generally the price I've seen for a complete XK motor is in the $1500 -$1800 range USD Cheers Tim
