Urgent, this: I have the opportunity to buy an excellent Minolta XD-5 camera, with everything else besides. My questions, to which I very much would like quick answers (seller is waiting!):
1. How does the XD-5 fit in the XD range, the XD-7 and the XD-11 I mean.
2. Is it true that the XD-5 was a model after which Leica constructed its own models?
3. What are the tech features of the XD-5? Of these four: AutoProgram Mode, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Manual; which ones does the XD-5 carry?
4. What are the disadvantages in general?
5. If the condition is as the seller says (uniformly excellent), is the price he asks (Euro 75 for the body, 3 good lenses, bag, manual, flash unit, and much more) a good price?
6. To which possible 'snakes in the grass' should I pay special attention when giving it a quick try-out at his home before handing over the cash?
Thanks very much in advance, and everyone who knows something (esp. those who possess this model) are invited to chime in here.
Best, Frank Lenssen in Holland.

Hi everyone.I own a Minolta XD7, that I got from my father. The camera is working great, but i have one question. I enjoy taking photos of animals, but with my current equipment I do not get good enough close ups. Any suggestions where could I get perfect lens for that kind of photographing?

Dear XD users: I must have owned up to ten xd and purchased some other for friends. Among the X-Range this camera has to me the perfect size and grip when compared to the heavier xe and the more angular x-7. The viewfinder is the brightest and has been taken over in the later x-7oo etc. Still it lacks some of the contrast of the xe and even sr-t , and i found it hard on more than one occasion to get a clear infinite image with 2/28 or 1,8/35, a problem which disappeared when mounting the same lenses on the xe/srt. When buying an xd,check the resistance of the advance lever film inside. There is some slipping with ageing. Again the xe advance lever is superior, smooth and quick. Also check the xds shutter speed which varies among specimen. There is always a delay due to second measurement with stop-down apt.- but some models are really slow, you can even observe the darkening viewf. pict while taking photogs. Said to be due to ageing lubricating fluids of the pneumatic mirror dampener.. Again xe and x.. give you a feel of quicker reaction- but then the xe has no Si-Meter and this can lead to surprises with sudden changes of light_ a car passing with headlamps on etc..The x.. Series seem to give a good compromise with good reaction time and Si-cells, but its a pity to have given up the beautiful and inobtrusive sound of the former shutter. The exposure system is superior to any manual minolta. The winder fits in perfectly - an xe with winder would have been simply too much. If you need a secondxd body take the xd 5, black xd are interesting for collectors. I´d be happy if the points I mentioned could help users to pick a good xd, and would be happy if anybody confirmed my remarks. Some say, minolta never made better lenses MC/MD but I would go so far to say: 1975-85 was the golden age of 35mm SLR and the full quality of the stuff can only be exploited with post 1990 B/W, Slide or Negatives when looking at 1ooASA films of this day I`m simply happy this equipment seems to be made for eternity. Thank you for this beautiful website=

My wife was using my MinoltaXG7 with the motor drive,at the end of the roll of film, the motor drive keeps "clicking" or makes the winding noise. Is this normal? or is that the warning for "end of roll"?

I have a minolta XK that belonged to my Dad. The veiwfinder was installed wrong and the metering system does no show up when looking through the viewfinder. It still works on automatic but you don't know were you are in manual mond. Does anyone know of a place to get repairs done on this model?

For the X-1 (XK) I was removing the viewfinder and then something suddenly fell out. It was the tiny mirror that is used to illuminate the shutter scale. The mirror backing shows that glue was used to adhere it to whatever it was supposed to be attached. Now I can barely see the shutter scale through the viewfinder. I was wondering if it is possible to have a professional fix it or if it is a lost cause.
