Everytime when I see someone mentioning the XD-7, it was just being referred as the world's first multimode SLR while information on the great XK camera was so scarce that as if Minolta wants to shy away from others. Although I understand these two were great cameras of yesteryears but I don't totally write off them as a perfect used entry cameras. I have an XD, I have much of the original documentation. The rewind mechanism/shaft is broken, Do you have any idea where I might be able to get it repaired. Thanks... Jess2. From : Bert Janssen (hcmjanssen@hotmail.com)

A response to the question which XD is older:
the colour is no indication! Indications are the position of the exposurecorrection lever, the finish of the tip of that lever, the colour of the "125" marking on the shutter speed dial and the font of the logo. A short list of how to date the XD model you have:
Model A: outboard metal EV adjustment lever (1977/78)
Model B: outboard plastic tip on EV adjustment lever
Model C: 1/125 becomes green (1980)
Model D: inboard EV adjustment lever
Model E: new logo (1982)

I thought it might be interesting to users of the XM/XK/X-1 to know that the camera has AE-lock.
Although not specified in the manuals, it can be locked in A-mode!
Try this:
Point the lens to a light area, and set the aperture to obtain a shutter speed of 1/250s and slightly press the shutter button until you feel a sligth resistance (this is the tricky part!). Keep the shutter button pressed and point the lens to a dark area, then fire the shutter. If you have done it correctly, the shutter will run at 1/250s. It should work the other way round too.

Some comments on the XD7/11 1. It likes to be used - it seems to get a bit sluggish as far as the stop down, mirror cycle, shutter open, etc ar concerned if it is not used. A bit of repetitive manual stopping down - DOF preview also loosens things up a bit. 2. The rewind lever gets tight - a drop of oil on the shaft fixes this. 3. If you put it into Shutter priority mode without the lens on "A" then it does odd things - it overrides the shutterspeed and the LED's get erratic - in fact it looks like it's bust! 4. Mine had a minor burr on the film transport rail that scratched the film in line with the sprocket holes. Smoothed with a knife (shutter out of the way on "B") and now it winds/rewinds easier. No more scratch on the film. 5. I also removed the bottom cover and put traces of lube on the moving parts there - also eased the "tight" winding. Not too much lube though!5. My xd5 is great.almost as good as my leica m6.minolta should bring this one back with a 4000th shutter and motor to rival nikon fm3a.i had all my minoltas overhauled by camera clinic in seattle but will eventually spend seven grand or so to build a factory supported nikon system.funny thing nikon out there all alone with the fm series still kicking it.mabey an all metal x700 with higher shutter wood do the trick or has minolta given up?9.
