In XD series cameras, both "X" and "O" are the flash sync., 1/100 of a second. While "X" is being controlled electronically, "O" is totally mechanical, no battery required. So, in some sense, the shutter is “hybrid control” with the world’s first multiple exposure mode, in 1976! By the way, the "B" setting in XD-series is also mechanical.

I have been using a Minolta XD for many moons now. It was my dad's camera and it was the camera that I learned how to take photos with. I still use it to this day when a 35mm is called for. The only probleme is after these many years I still don't know what the "X" and "O" setting are for. Can anyone help me out? thanks

I've been given an old lens and I'd like to give it and a camera to my teenage son. The lens is a Vivitar 85-205mm Auto Zoom 3.8 from 1968. Will this fit the Minolta XD-7/XD-11 or do I need a mount of some kind? If you have other suggested cameras I might check out, I'd be most obliged. Thanks Tom G.

I,m looking for a reparer in the UK for my XD7, as the electronics have failed. Failing that, a repair scematic would be ideal.

On a more positive note, there is still a source(s) of new bodies that will accept the Minolta MD mount. Here in the UK they're marketed as Centon and are fine as second bodies, tho' lacking the sophistication and build quality of the originals.

I am looking for information about Minolta MC Rokkor 58 f1,2 early version whit chromed filter thread and metal knurling on focusing ring. What are the performance of this lens. The later version whit rubberizzed filter ring is better?
Thanks

In my very recent post, a couple of minutes ago, I proved my fallibility by forgetting to note the url of Garry's Camera Repair. Here it is: www.geocities.com/garryscamera. Hope this helps forlorn XD owners.

I had recently posted my interest in acquiring a used XD11 to replace my own. Since then I found an excellent repair service on the web, Garry's Camera, which repaired my lagging shutter, misaligned door, replaced worn light seal strips and cleaned the inside of the body, all for $45. U.S. dollars plus S&H. I received the camera in excellent working condition in less than two weeks after I sent it out. The price is fixed from the outset as soon as you make out your preprinted order form which you print out from the web page. It's was a satisfying experience and I'm "back in the saddle again" even though it left me a tad poorer.

I bought a minolta XD-5 in year 1980 in Hong Kong when I started my overseas study in the U.K., and sold it off at an attractive price there in year 1984 before I went back to Hong Kong. I bought a resale XD (yes, just XD, not XD-5/7/11) afterwards, it served me well enough for the past years until 9 months ago. One of the "petal" around the film take-up spool has been broken due to - my abuse, I tried to rewind the film to the cartridge a little to maintain the tension. I used to do that but perhaps the plastic has been aged to certain extend, it could not withstand my abuse anymore. So DO NOT do this to your camera!

I could not get it repaired, neither minolta nor private workshop, and I could not find a replacement in good condition. eventually I have bought a Seagull X-370 in order not to waste my collection of lenes & accessories accumulated for the past 22 years. The manual focus lenses are very good but worth nothing if you sell it, so I choose to keep them and continue use them (despite I have bought a Dynax-7).

P.S.: XD-5 has no window opened for aperture viewing from viewfinder, it also has no build-in viewfinder blind for long exposure compared with XD/XD-7/XD-11. Other features are the same.
