AS-1 should work with ISO-tyep flash foot on any Nikon F2 bdoesi. Read more here:
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf2/flash/index.htm
Next, the Nikon SB50DX has a section on compatibility, It can only work in non-TL auto flash OR MANUAL flash control only. Check (probably a very new site created by leo):

Hey Guys, Can I use a a Nikon SB-50 DX flash with a Nikon F2A in combination with a Suntar flash bracket? I'm new to photography and I would appreciate the help. Is there a sync cord that will go fron the SB-50DX to the F2A?

Hi Bob, I have a number of F2 back doors, but I think the problem is teh catch mechanism on the body. Here's how to examine it :

1) Remove the small strip of leatherette on the side plate
2) Remove the two small screws securing the side plate
3) Remove the side plate, but be careful not to let the spring under it to fly off
4) Check that the catch mechanism slides freely. If not, then clean it and apply some lubricant
5) Put everything back and check that the catches do lock the back door Hope this helps.Happy F2 shooting, Sover

I have just acquired a MD3 motor drive and MB2 battery pack for my F2 camera. What surprises me is that when empty of film on single shot mode it seems to wind and fire on trigger down and wind and fire on trigger up. Now obviously the delay involved in winding before firing, instead of being precocked, is wrong as is the waste of another frame when the trigger is released. With a film in it seems to wind while firing on the down trigger and then wind a tiny bit (without firing ) on the up trigger. I have had the back open to watch this happen Its all a bit weird. I wonder if anyone can advise? Thanks Nick

Kirk, it could be that your MD2's motor gear has split. The gear is made of nylon and when these get old they tend to get brittle and split. The drive may still seem to function when off the camera, but when subject to the higher forces required to wind the camera and fire the shutter, the gear will slip on the motor shaft. You'd have to open up the drive and examine the gear to see if this is your problem (if you don't know how, look for a repair manual or try posting a question on the nikonrepair group at groups.yahoo.com). Last time I checked (about 2 years ago) Kelly Camera (www.kellycamera.com) had replacement gears made from metal. Sorry I can't give you any specific instructions on replacing the MD2 gear, my drive is an MD3 (both the MD2 and MD3 used nylon gears).

Question on focus screen compatibility with the DP-3 finder. I just purchased a DP-3 finder for my F2... is there a particular focus screen that one should consider for general photography and compatibility? Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays Dennis Hahn Anchorage, AK
