Great site ! I have owned a F2a for about three years now. I have always thought of getting a motor drive for my camera where I have narrowed down the choices to a MD-3 instead of MD-2 where incidentally it is way out of my budget. Recently a used local camera store call and informed me there is an unit available at his outlet. So my question is - Other than price, extra weight and power rewind function, is they any other significant points that I should also take note before I commit ?2. I live in Uruguay. I have owned my Nikon F2 Photomic for many years. My system has grown with a series of mixed AI and non-AI lenses along with many other accessories especially the macro section. For so long, my F2 has been so reliable and rarely gives me any problems. Other than weight (who bothers ?) you really cannot pick on anything from this hard piece of camera. I don't want to conclude this is the best Nikon SLR camera bodes ever - but it serves me well with purpose over the years. This is more important to me than its outlook or the rich background behind the name of its creator. This website is truly a marvel, there are tons of useful information and technical references that even I am not aware of previously. Good site ! Regards. -Rafael P -3. Funny. I cannot tell you how I feel. Operating a FM2 is very much different from a Nikon F2. It may sound a little sutpid but you can sense it when you view throught the eyepiece. Probably, the overall balance and extra-weight (Probably even the grainer focusing screen...) all added to such a funny thought. I felt a little more confidence when I am with a Nikon F2A which I have owned for the last 10 years. May be that was contributed from a lack of self-confidence ?... I am not that good as a photographer. By the way, I really liked many of the photograpghs displayed along with this EXCELLENT Nikon F2 site !4. From : David (pathbrae@mail.com)

Hi Lars - I had never heard any of Nikons claims about the FM2N being lube free and have never owned one so I can't comment on how robust it would be. However - I suspect that there will be very little excess lube in a twenty year old F2 these days! I remember many years ago Nikon offering a "winterising" service - replacing standard grease with v. low temp grease, although they cautioned against using a winterised camera in a warm climate. My problems with cameras in the hills goes back about 20 years when I had a Cosina self-destruct in my bag in a gale on top of Goat Fell. The back was off and the exposed film was loose in the bag. That precipitated my FE which has stood up well to the weather but who's batteries fail 2when the temp drops (shutter lock :-( ) So many of my shots have been "FE / 24mm / f 5.6 1/90th) I bought a s/hand FM to give myself a bit more variety of shutter speed but the camera seems to freeze - I can wind on but the shutter won't fire when it gets v. cold - seems like the wind on isn't quite going far enough to free the shutter release. Might need a good clean but service would cost more than I paid for the body and it works OK as soon as it warms up again. And so to the F2 it's only problem is it's weight but the smoothness of it's operation more than makes up for it. It is, in my opinion, the finest 35mm SLR I have ever handled. The screen may not be as bright as some but it is crystal clear and free from distractions. Metering with the camera held away from the eye is a distinct advantage in a cold wind as my eyes stream as soon as I hold a camera close to them in the hills - it seems to blast the wind and snow straight into them. Mechanically it has never faltered - It could do with a foam replacement but that can wait for an evening when I'm really bored! Even the sound (or lack of it) during exposure and (the incredibly short!) wind-on gives a feeling of confidence. And I can use it without taking my gloves off. All I need now is a lifting of the access ban due to foot-and-mouth and I'll be back up in the hills again before the winter season ends and the tourists and midges come out in force.5. This site is extremely informative. I have never heard anything such as the Speedmagny (?) 4 x 5 format film back is possible with a 35mm Nikon camera. The 750 film back is another eye opener, I will not hesitate to recommend this site to anyone who wants to know more about the Nikons photographic system ! GREAT SITE !6. Hi ManualKS! I sure am pleased to be here! There are no plans to make an exculsive section for F2 at the NikonRepair list. We do however occasionally discuss F2 repair issues and Sover Wong has even prepared some service and repair notes specific to F2. They can be accessed from our files section @ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NikonRepair/files/
Rest regards,

Oh.. one more thing. I have also noticed this message board has been designed to use it differently from earlier ones such as those at Nikon F, F3, FM series, FE and FA. The search function may prove to be very useful in the future when this Board turns huge in its database where I thought other board could have added such similar function. This was a very good effort indeed. Lastly, good to see Mr Lars (Maintainer for the FA Board and repair mailing list is here too...) may I suggest a possibility that your Nikon repair mailing list to include a new F2 section ? Well, this is just a wild thought, that is all. Not a sword fighting event . Peace.8. From : ManuelK.S (MbergMX@excite.com)

My-O-my... Lucky me ! I have been waited for this site for almost a year !!! Finally I can get my F2s that has been cold-storaged since I acquired it and struggling to figure how to make use of it. I have built upon the confidence I had with all the rest of the great websites you have constructed thus far (Nikon, Canon, Pentax Minolta and even and Olympus !) and decided to WAIT instead of buying a used manual from Craig Camera - it never disappoints ! To all the GREAT and CARING people out there who have helped to make this possible - may I say a BIG THANK YOU to all of you from the sunshine state.... MKS, FL.9. From : Lars (lhhansen@zi.ku.dk)

David - it is interesting to view the F2 as a winter camera but wouldn't the FM2N with its supposed minimum of lubrication do a better job in the extremest of climates? I keen to hear about extreme use of the F2. I find the idea of an F2 gallery great!10. Hi all - I hope most of you are still using your F2's and are not just leaving them on a shelf to gather dust! I bought mine to cope with conditions in the Scottish hills in winter when I found that my FE couldn't cope with the damp and cold. The F2 has proved completely reliable coupled to my 55mm and 24mm Nikors - not bad for a twenty plus year old camera. As a bonus it is also big enough to use with gloves on if neccessary.
What about a gallery for images taken with F2's around the world?
