Dneo: All your AF Nikkor lenses can be safely mounted onto and use with any of the Nikon F2 camera (I am not sure what about the Nikkormat because it has a shutter speeds ring on the lens mount) but they will not mate with the metering system and thus, you can only shoot blindly without metering guide (or putting your photographic experience to work). The G-series AF Nikkor lenses are, seemingly designed not to support MF Nikon camera at all because it has NO aperture control on the lens, so even if you can mount these series of lenses onto your camera, there is no way to adjust aperture. I don't know why would Nikon came out with something like that ??... Anyway, it is not a good idea to couple AF Nikkor (or Series-E) lenses with a F2 body, that is not an efficient way of photography, even if you are extremely good at Sunny 16 or Moon-lit f/1.2 rules....2. Jackie: Compared with most modern manual focus SLRs (after the Nikon FM in 1977), F2 has a different way to open its back via twisting the O/C key locates at the base of the camera; the two locking lugs hidden at the railing is actually control by the springs at the base of the film chamber. It must have been loosen its tension after your 20 years of intensed usage, it is not disastrous as you thought it is, consider sending the camera to an experienced camera technician who can service and fix any mechanical camera such as a Nikon FM should able to change that spring for you.3. Hello fellow Nikon fans,
I have an F2 Photomic and an Nikkormat FTn, as well as the latest F80. I also have a couple of AF lenses which I use exclusively on my AF F80. The question is, has anyone used any of these new lenses, especially the "D" and "G" ones on a non AI body such as my F2 and the Nikkormat FTn? I dared not try, fearing damage to either the camera body or the lens.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.4. From : Jacqueline Alkula (jackie.alkula@juno.com)

Anyone have any suggestions to fixing the camera back,
it keeps wanting to pop open. I am not sure how to twist
or squish the back to keep the lugs to engage the locking
device....
I have a 1979 model F2A, that I bought new in Mannheim
Germany in April of 1980... S/N F27950xxx
Still use it quite often. Just got a MD-2/MB-1 off of EBay
in Sept. Just before the 11th...
Thanks.

Recently purchased an absolutley mint ser#80104** F2A with an Oxberry Pro F2 pin register back. It looks like it was never used (or at least very little) Even the film guides and interior of the camera are spotless. It also has an odd 2 piece focusing screen with a grid for copy work--I imagine) Was hoping to convert it back to a regular F2 w/an MF-3 back and MD1/MD2 combo. Noticed the film guides are modified with small inset pins near the film spool guide.
(no holes in the guides like the P.R. F2 pictured on this site)
Here are the questions:
1. If The back was changed to an MF-3 would it work
2. Is doing this a sacriledge?
3. Can it be used for general purpose photography-or do the film guide mods
restrict it to pin register duty.
4. Are these cameras rare and worth holding on to. (ie. Do they have any collectibilty value or do the mods limit the cameras as collectors)
Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Dear Frank, go back to the Main Index page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf2/index.htm click on the respective Nikon F2 camera model (F2, F2S, F2SB etc....) Except the F2SB, the rest of the Nikon F2 links are more than just a instruction manual on their own. You have to print them or save them on your hard disk to read. I am not sure if leo has created pdf file for them where you have to ask him directly.8. From : Frank Grella (butchie5@optonline.net)

Thanks for the info jwoods. That was a hypothetical situation; I wish I had access to both cameras. Someone in overseas (Germany) has promised me to buy an F2 Nikon and that's where the question came up.
One more question: The F2/T's serial numbers are supposed to start with F2T 92xxxxxx, right? I saw one that's supposed to be titanium (with DE-1 finder) but the serial number is F2 92xxxxxx. Is that kosher? How do I know it's actually titanium?
