I have an F2 and it like a Cadillac with fins. Want to use it again. I picked it up after years of no use and there were two changes:

1. The Fresnel glass has got some weird funkiness with a circular weirdness on the left side of the frame. I popped it off the meter prism...but it's still not visible to me.When I look through the meter prism after it's off...it doesn't seem to be in the prism so I'm thinking it's on the glass that is in the body with the prism circle on it.
2. My eyes ain't they used to be.

So, anyone know what that funky circular thing is about and is there replacement fresnel glass available, and, are there diopters still available for this "axe," to get it up (or down) to my current eye level?

I have an MD-3 motor drive for my F2 and the shutter activation button does not engage or come up when I press the button. Any suggestions on what I can do to repair this problem or is it fatal?

I recently acquired a Nikon F2s with numerous lens. I love this!

Back in the day had Nikkormat.

How can I learn and educated myself with this classic gear? Where do I look for help....manuals etc?

Thanks in advance.

I own a Nikon F2 that I purchased in Subic Bay, PI in 1975. After many years of fine service, I would like to acquire a "B" screen. My eyes ain't what they used to be. I have a young huney trying to keep me young but the eyes remain stigmatized.

Here is my question- Does the F2a AND F2 use the same B screen? I have a B screen for my FE as well. Can that be used in the F2? I don't want to experiment until I know fer sure.

Many thanks to Ronnie Vician and Epoon Shipmaeker of General Camera, Chicago, IL for helping me out.

Hi larry,

Your F2 body is Feb-Mar 1976. Your DP-2 serial number seems to be too high. Can you check it again?

Regards,

Sover

Hi Bill,

Most F and F2 finder ring resistors can be refurbished, with the exception of DP-3 and DP-12 ring resistors. The latter have very thin and fine matellic contacts, that wear out very quickly. It is possible for a third party company to manufacture them, but no one bothers for a 30 year old camera part. So stay away from DP-3s and DP-12s below Exc++ or 9.5 condition.

Regards,

Sover

Hi Chris,

There are plenty of parts for the DP-11, with the exception of the plastic name plate.

Regards,

Sover

Hello everyone,

I am selling my group of excellent used: two Nikon F2's, Nikon lens and other Nikon equipment on Ebay. I hope that someone here would find my listing to be of interest. To find my listing, please past the following search tag:

Nikon F2 Film SLR Cameras & Nikkor Lens & Filters

This site is absolutely indispensable and without it I would be lost using my F2's!

Thanks

Nikon F2 cameras rock!

Well, that's the local jargon of the youngsters, but I gather it's especially applicable to the F2. I just got into "acquiring" (not collecting, because I use them) various brands of 60s-80s non-plasticky cameras. I've got Pentax M series, Canon F1 (old and new, not F1n), and Nikons, the latter of which are growing in number.

Of the Nikons, it's looking like the F2 will be the choice. I've two Fs (one of which is a mint Apollo), and now 2 really fine looking F2s. The F3 is turning out to be problematic - more in that forum. The F2s have the DP-2 and DP-3 heads (F2S and F2SB). The latter is on a really clean MD2/MB1 drive setup with an equally clean 55mm/1.2 with appropriate hood and cap. This is a seriously elegant looking setup, and it works exactly as one would expect a camera to work; no auto anything to get in the way!

Yeah, yeah... you guys have already heard this sort of blather before, but for whatever reason, I'm stoked enough about these cameras to actually contribute my "sermon to the choir". For me, a really nice looking outfit edifies my sensibilities when I pick it up for whatever reason. I've always been careful with my gear; I don't consider camera gear to be expendable like working pros might. So having a near mint looking setup just adds to the pleasure of using it.

And now, the obligatory but completely unsolicited testimonials aside, here is an observation for Sover Wong: VR rings for the F series Nikon heads are the "achilles heels" that a) tend to discourage old Nikon "acquisitions", and b) arguably keep the price down for the rest of us. That said, I would think that someone who is savvy in material science would come up with a material that could be used to refurbish VR rings.

Depending on the material, it could be used to make VR ring replacements, or could be used to replace the VR material on the existing ring. I just can't think that renewing VR rings is that much of a problem, given the incredible revolution in material science we've seen over the last few decades.

Stephen Gandy, who has the well-known CameraQuest site, offers Nikon viewfinder repairs, and he claims that most heads can be made functional again. I don't know what his techs do, but it might be worthwhile finding out.

The bottom line is that, for analog photography (film shooters), the F2 is just too damn good a camera to allow this weakness to persist! I trust I will find general agreement?
