Can I assume all these Nikon F2 SLR cameras will accept all the Nikkor lenses EXCEPT that they MAY or MAY NOT have metering function when used with the respective AI and NON-AI F2 camera bodies ? That sounds very much unlike from what I read from contributing articles posted at some popular web forum such as Photo.net. That made me thought all along newer range of lenses produced by Nikon cannot be used or mount at all onto these older Nikon SLR camera bodies! (Or may be if they are right >>>???). I am traveling right now, please answer via the Board, thank you.

i just located this site via another. i have a nikon f2 photomic i purchased here in 1973. it came with a nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens. wonderful camera! it was my present to myself for graduating from college. it has been in the repair shop once because i dropped it on the meter. this camera has been many places with me & i will never part with it(i've had many offers to sell). i am learning so much from this site, especially because i am re-entering the wonderful world of photography. i really know nothing about the newer type af equipment. whereas mine is metal, the newer is mostly polycarbonate or hybrid with metal. there is nothing like the feel of something solid like an f2. thank-you for your devotion to this site and answering some lens compatibility issues for me as i seek some company for my 50 mm. nikon should welcome your site because we are nikon addicts and i for one will buy nothing else. thank-you again for all you do. p.s. i am thinking about buying an f100 & have used an n90s: they are marvels of automation, but i don't feel that i am taking the picture. maye, i am a neo-luddite.

**Jan Wan**: Your questions of "1. Can I use the newer 28-70mm D series lens on F2? 2. Can I use the F2 lens on Nikon F80 camera?" 1. Yes. It can mount on ANY Nikon F2 bodies Except they don't provide metering information. The F2A and F2AS are the two AI among all other F2s. According to somewhere where I read, it can add the metering shoe on top of the aperture ring and name them compatible with older non-AI Nikon SLR too. 2. There is no F2 lens, because you can mount a made in 1980 Nikkor lens with your F2 and meter normally. See more: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/lens2.htm lastly, recent development seeing Nikon brought us some under-spec bodies that do not seem wanted to commit to older Nikkor lens owner - Even AI-spec lenses can still be mounted onto the camera but now THEY DO NOT PROVIDE METERING INFORMATION INSIDE THE VIEWFINDER ANYMORE ! %#*$@*!!!

I have been collecting some oldies such as the Nikon F and Leica bodies. I have not been searching seriously for any Nikon F2 yet, but after going through your site, the urge is there now - I must say, information contained in this site is absolute marvelous and I have been kept wondering what it takes to create such a website ?... Passion, I think. Nikon and Canon should come here to pick up something before trying to build a Museum for themselves. Good Work ! MX.

Dennis -With stop-down (or stopped-down) metering you meter at the taking aperture and not a full (or maximum) aperture. In order to meter at full aperture you will have to rely on some kind of indexing system (check URL above), Hence, if you do not have indexing supported (as when mounting an old unmodified lens to an FE or F4 or when using a new AF lens without the rabbit ears on an F or pre-AI F2 finder), stop down metering is what you will have to use. Stop down the lens with the stop-down (or DOF preview) lever“/button and meter.

Best regards,

Hugo - I think Braczko's statement has to with that some screens require compensation and marks are supplied to assist in this (not that something in marked on the actual screen itself to be seen in the finder).
Best regards,

Dear all, I owned an F2a and I have problems with terms like "stop-down metering." What do they mean when they said you can only use "stop-down metering", how do you go about doing that? Thanks in advance..

Draven

I have two questions--

I read the following about the Nikon F2 in Peter Braczko's "The Complete Nikon System" book:

"...for particular screens, exposure compensation marks are available."

I understand this to mean that there are focusing screens available for the F2 that work in conjunction with the metering needle to show how many stops exposure above or below the meter's recomened exposure you are. Am I right? If so, which screens have have these 'exposure compensation marks'?

Thanks in advance for your help. Would appreciate if responses could be sent to me directly at hugoamt@surfree.com

With a clue provided by Michael Edward Green who posted a Message at this Board, and a little help from my friend, Chuck Hester in US, we managed to get permission from Genesis camera to download the image and publish the picture of the SS-F2 SlideMagic camera in this F2 site. Unfortunately, there is very little information relates to this camera, the closest I get get is a company in Germany that sells equipment under the trade name of SlideMagic system for large scale slide promotional presentations, but they have not reply my mail. IF- you have any information relates to this camera, please mail in or make use of the Message Board to let us share your intelligence. Once again, thanks all who have helped to make it possible.
