Mike, The part you are referring to is the back release. It has to be removed when a motor drive MD1 or MD2 is installed because the rewind arm of the motor extends into the film cassette for motorized rewind. There's a clot to screw it on and off. Yours must have come loose. Without it you'll ruin any loaded roll of film because light will get in. You'll need to check with a Nikon tech to see what the part code was, but it really doesn't matter- Nikon no longer provides the part. I would check with repair shops that work on mechanical cameras and see if they have one laying around- shops like that usually have parts bodies on hand. I've also seen them from time to time on eBay. You could mount a motor drive until you locate the part and use it manually without batteries in the motor drive battery compartment to keep the weight down.

I have an F2 and it works just fine, but... the last time my wife unloaded the film, the manual release part for the back cover came unscrewed and was lost (we didn't realize it until later). I don't really know what to call it. A little piece flips out and allows you to turn it so that the back pops open. That little piece is screwed into the bottom of the camera body. Does anyone know where I could possibly get one of those? Does anyone know the part number and whether they are identical in other models? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks, Mike

Hi. I was wondering if anyone knew the factory part number for the resistor ring for the DP1 viewfinder. It's a tremendously hard part to find apparently but I found a place that has 2 different ones but only lists the part number and I have no idea which one might be for the DP1. If someone knows an online source of the parts numbers, without having to buy a manual, that would be great also. :)

I dropped my F2 and damaged the top plate with a minor dent on one side. The camera is functioning perfectly, but the film counter is not working and the I have a little difficulty winding the film. What I want to know is where can I get this problem fixed. Where are parts for the camera available?

The analog (needle) display on the one MB1 is the early type battery check Nikon used on their motor drive battery holders. The two LED's are later. The bottoms of the two differ also. All the MB1's I have seen with the analog display have a plain (no simulated leather finish) hard bottom, while the later MB1's with the LED's have the simulated-leather covering the bottom that matches the rest of the finish.

For every 10 MB1's I see with the needle display, probably three are working today. The LED's are much more reliable.

Mr.Bob Hammond sent me his finding of a possible variation of the MB-1. The difference is the way how to check the power status of the battery pack. See: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf2/motordrives/index2.htm#MB1X Thanks for sharing, Bob !
