I have a Nikon F2 Photomic and love it...but the metering system will not work anymore. Can the viewfinder be repaired or does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement?

I bought an F2 this past summer, which seems to be working well. Took it in to have a few things done (light meter was sticking, which I mostly fixed with a knife), as well as one of the leaf springs on the light meter was broken, and the foam between the light meter and camera body was almost gone. The repair shop told me the repairs would be around $300 (stating that everything needed to be adjusted/cleaned/etc). Not having the repairs done due to the fact that the camera so far has taken good photos. The repair shop did state one thing (over the phone the SECOND time I spoke to them, and of course nothing of this was mentioned in the written estimate), that the "battery box" was broken. Didn't really get a good explanation as to what this was, and the tech stated that he thought it was "somewhere in the light meter" when I went to pick up the camera. Any idea what this is? Also, where is a reliable place to get repair manuals?

Thanks!

Battery for DS-12 Aperture control Hi I have a Nikon F2AS. I recently got a DS-12 Aperture control for it. The unit comes with a battery charger and a rechargeable battery. I think the battery is dead. Does anyone here know where I can find a replacement battery ?. Thank you all. Aki Snorrason Iceland.

You have indeed developed an AWESOME Nikon web resources here ! I think those Nikon's executives working at the air-cond. offices should come here and learnt how to revamp their next official website in the future. I just couldn't hide my excitement after finding out this place. I am an American Japanese but although I don't speak Japanese at all, but I still think the Nikon F2, a camera series that is way ahead of my time, was one hell of a SLR camera. It is a true classic and need a great website such as this help to illustrate what is so great about this camera. Thank you to whoever in your web development team that has contributed their individual effort to enable this to be made possible. Thank you.

I have a F2 Photomic I bought new in 1973 and have used little since. This week, I purchased a NIB MD-3 and MB-2 with instructions booklet. I also read through the article on this unit on this site, but cannot find the answer. The MB-3 motor works fine, but is not powerful enough to adnvace the film/cock the shutter. Also, the (I assume) solenoid that activates the shutter release does not activate when the release button is pressed. Does anyone have expereince with these problems? Advice?

Thanks.

Don

I have a SlideMagic Copystand System and an F2 -SS camera at my place of work. It was purchased before I arrived here and I have been using it for 12 years now. I have been searching for the company that could service, provide parts, get the camera serviced, ect. I have some info to share but I think the last time I tried to contact them the company doesn't exist any more.
I did get in touch with a man by the name of Gordon Hill at
1-877-475-4337 and he is somehow connected with SlideMagic? Also I have the photo optic light, Slidmagic Custom Pro 201-449-3826 out of Wall NJ. I dont have any other info and I am not sure of these contacts anymore. If anyone has any info on the Slidemagic System they could share with me I would appreciate it.

Hi,

This is a really great site! I have my fathers F2AS that is in perfect shape (all black). Last year, while shooting pics at the San Diego Zoo the strap hook broke and the camera landed on the ground, damaging the bottom base plate of the camera.....yes, it made me just sick!

Does anyone know where I could find a replacement plate, any info would be much appreciated!

Stuart Babcock: Technically, matching a DP-11 finder onto a Nikon F2 camera body would make it a F2A (not F2AS w/DP-12). Next, based on the serial number, if I am not mistaken, it should be a made-in-1977 product (two digits follow in front of the serial number). Andrews, the new Nikon owners; dotcom website looks more to me like it will take "subscribers" for a $ ride later. Anyway, it is good to see another dedicated Nikon website on the Net emerges, regardless the intention and objective. Cheers and more power to Nikon !
