Dear Nikon Vets: **** (*) ****
(**For those of you, who are impatient, skip this whole storyand read my question.**) Recently, my mind was occupied on obtaining Warhammer figures, I aspired to collect the biggest and most terrifying legions in the galaxy...If you did not know, Warhammer 40k is a tabletop hobby, where you collect minatures and it isgeeky in some aspect.. Let me explain a bit of myself: I am 15, I live In Edmonton,Canada...am a bit of an artist hehe..

So my dad said to me one day, "Son, why not spend your time on a hobby that is fun, well worth your time, and educational, meaning you can learn something." (He use to be a photographer.) He shows me a large camera bag, looks like it came from the disco 70's lol. Inside contained the remnants of something in the past.. A 1958 model Leicaflex with 1:2 Summicron-R 50mm lens (I have no clue on what that is.) A Nikon F2 Photomic (did some researching myself.) that came with a whole bunch of other optics..This huge bulky Metz Flash?

********
So this is my question: Are there any really good beginner photography books out there? I have decided to take this somewhat expensive hobby seriously. The frame counter is not working, any idea on how to fix it? if it is managable i can do it. (don't wanna blow away 150 bucks.) The light baffles are somewhat destroyed, any suggestions on what to do? is it necessary to fix it? Thx for your patience --matt

Was browsing eBay auctions looking for F2 accessories, and found an auction for a DP-12 finder. The auction title advertised the finder as a "Titanium DP-12 Finder" . To my best knowledge, the DP-12 finder was not offered or marketed as having a titanium outer skin, nor offered for sale with the F2 Titan. When I asked the seller about this, he said that he based this claim in part, on the weight difference between the DP-12 and DP-11 finders. The difference in weight in itself does not conclusively prove that the finder is made of titanium. So, the question, is the DP-12 constructed with titaniun outer skin or not?

Thanks Winston for the kind words. My Nikon is an F2 serial #7449329,which I think is one of the last 5,000 they made according to what I've been reading. It came with a Dp-1 that works great. The lens is a little harder to find information on.It's a NIKKOR-S.C 1:1.4.#1500978.I think all the grime it had on it when I got it actually preserved it from the elements. My wife thinks I have become obsessed since finding this site and all the great stuff on E-Bay.If you or anyone else has any info or suggestions about where to go to find stuff for my camera,I would appreciate it,cause I am OBSESSED and need MORE IMPUT.ANYTHING,ANYTHING AT ALL....Thank-you...

Dear friends, I just got a very nice example of F2 that I was dreaming about because of waist level vewing possibility. It's in a great shape and seems to be in a full working order, but the advance lever seems to be tight and during it's rotating (with open back) there is a strange sound like something bothering to curtain, a rubbish sound. May be somebody can give an advice what can it be? Thanks. Azon.

I own a Nikon f2 AS and two nikon f2 dp-1. I would like to buy a flash unit Metz 45 cl-4 or ct-4, but I don't know if I need some SCA adapter in order to obtain best performance from this flash unit connecte to my f2. Unfortunately, the Metz web site lists sca adapters only for "recent" nikon cameras (none before Nikon F3). Can someone tell me if a Metz 45 ct/cl 4 flash unit can be connected to f2 cameras so that the features of the flash unit can be fully exploited, with or without sca adapter ?

Recently I bought a mint used Nikon F2AS, I find that the meter has an error of 1/2 to 1/3 stop after I put a pair of LR-44 battery. Have you experienced similar problem with this camera? What cuase this? The manual said silver oxide battery should be used? Is there any difference between LR-44 and siver oxide batteries? Is there any way I can calibrate the meter myself? Thanks in advance. Bing

Tim: Don’t know what would cause that problem, I just know that, that lever can be a bit stiff at times and that the lever should be at the 7 O’clock position when the mirror is locked up, good luck Winston
