Carl Zeiss Jena is a Germand lens, not the one at the west but a product of east german Zeiss factory. Your F2 is non-AI body and you have to check your lens whether it will couple well with the meter of the finder, it may post some problem if it does not has an auto diaphragm inside the lens, I am not expert in these connections. other may help.

Hello, I'm dennis from Singapore. Recently, I inherited an Nikon F2-photomic(I think) from my Uncle. The lenses that came with it is Nikor 50mm F/1.2 and Carl Zeiss Jena 70-210mm 1:4.5-5.6 MC Macro. Information on the Nikor 50mm lens was easily available on the net but the information on the Carl Zeiss 70-210mm lenses was really limited. I couldn't find any information on it at all. Do you have any wedsites that cover Carl Zeiss lenses?

Another problem was that I realised that the metering on the F2 doesn't work when the Carl Zeiss(aperture) is in use. Can I still take photos with it? The exposure seems to be affected only by the shutter speed but difference in aperture settings does not seems to change the exposure as indicated by the metering on the F2?

I understand that the best solution is to go to my Uncle...but he has not used the camera for at least 10 years and told me he had forgot everything about the camera and the lenses... Really appreciate if you can help me out on this... Thanks and Regards, Dennis Ho.

I have never owned a Nikon F2, although I had a Nikon F and using a F3/FM2n combination. This site has been a eye opener for me to understand so much about the legendary Nikon F2 series of SLR bodies. Naturally, I would imagine the amount of time and effort that has to be put in to enable the possible of the creation of this marvelous website. Anyway, I may be bidding a F2AS at Ebay for collective purposes and strangely, that was a decision where I drawn down only after reading the content in your site. Good job - whoever you are and I think those Japanese guys at Nikon should take a good look again at their own website !

Gen Holst, I think you must have been confused, Magic Lattern Guides only published a copy of the Nikon F2 by B. Moose Peterson; the "another copy" is actually published under Hove Foto Books series by Paul Comon. I have both of these, well, I agree with you, in relation to information on Nikon F2- Paul's book is better than Peterson. I don't have a chance to get the other by Herbert Keppler that you have mentioned. Anyway, I might also have to agree with you with another fact, this site is just absolutely MARVELOUS ! Nigel, CA.

** N. Wilkinson **: Frankly, I was a little upset after reading your message, doubting truthfulness of some information appeared in this site especially when I realized your point of reference is based on a scratchy commercial reading material. I got to know about this site during its development stage so I knew something how this site was started until it eventually gone 'live'; Frankly, I used to own a few popular reference books on Nikon F2 that are widely and commercially available, and thus I can dare to compare some of them - most of these publications are useful for basic reference but I think Herbert Keppler's "The Nikon & Nikkormat Way" is very much better in its content relating to Nikon F2 system. Moose's copy is a little general (& disappointing) in its content and there are even some mistakes made in relation to the F2 (but I believe it sold the most..); there is another very good F2 reference book from the same publisher under Magic Lantern Guide series which was also quite detailed and informative; the point is, in terms of usefulness to a new F2 owner and richness of content, I can safely quote materials in this site could well rival, if not better than any of those publication ! Neither I want to see you doubting the information contained herein, the question of whether those rare F2 bodies featured - I would believe most of them were, during its time were opened for sale to general public. However, odd F2 models such as the "F2 pin", was specialized camera modified to handle some special application while they have chosen the F2 as the basic SLR camera to modify but that was not produced nor marketed by Nikon. The gold plated F2 featured was hard to find and I have never heard of its existence prior to this site. The F2 25th Anniversary was only marketed in U.S. Good day. GenH.

I own a Black F2 with the engraving of on the rewind knob. Has anyone else come accross this. I have read that the mark was "phased" out with the F but here I have a F2 with the marking. Is this a rare feature? anyone with any thoughts on this?

I have checked the various Odd F2 bodies featured in this site; questions: Does all these models really existed or on special order ? I have never heard anything like that even on Moose's F2 book.
