Industry wide indications and ceasing film body development by Pentax altogether in early 2003 more than suggest the manual focus Pentax LX will not be having an upgrade (except, perhaps for very rare Limited Edition Models hand assembled by special commission by the new HoyaPentax Corporation). In 2008 Pentax became a division of Hoya Corporation, which had together with Pentax released jointly developed professional grade optics (since 2005); Pentax has shifted its attention to development of auto focus Digital SLRs having build qualities constructed for the long run--now with weather seals--like the LX. You may use this site for common support and sharing of mutual users knowledge or experiences among yourselves. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the advanced users Pentax SLR cameras from the LX forward, including many such auto focus film cameras, and Pentax digital SLR cameras. We keep the site going too for the WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here as to its magnificent K mount system user archives: as have been shared here for many years. Have an inquiry related to Pentax gear? First try KEYING IN YOUR KEY WORD(S) for a preexisting archived response on your subject of inquiry from this LX site. If your inquiry or sharing is from advanced users K10D, K20D, or K200D SLR needs, proceed on to t NEW PENTAX ADVANCED USERS K10D, K20D SLR site.
This LX site was specifically created for the great Pentax LX SLR camera model(s), and now has incorporated increased opportunity for an expanded interchange with the introductions of the Pentax K10D, K20D, and K200D SLRs to include advanced and professional digital user models. Interchange is encouraged with the intention to continue as a forum for advanced system users of past K-mount film based SLR systems and the mentioned Pentax DSLRs. With decreasing forum traffic here, and enthusiasts moving on with SLR digital imaging products futures, we hope the continued convenience of this site and its past Pentax advanced LX users data archives--provided by the database KEY WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here--can be very useful to you. Most past site user techniques, systems components, and lenses of Pentax advanced applications--as have been past examined by users on this site--are still of use regarding the newest Pentax SLRs. Please don't mail us with other than constructive suggestions or to rectify mistakes found within this site, thank you. Since this is a non-profitable resource site, maintained by professional and advanced system users, the developer of this site reserves the rights to censor or delete any inappropriate, unrelated, misleading or excessively hostile messages posted herein. If your intention is to dispose of your Pentax cameras or its accompanying accessories and/or you are looking for a used model, or even for any of its system components: please use a separate section with a higher volume of related traffic for these purposes: on the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia sites sponsor has no Guestbook standing on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Good to see that you are using the dusty LX's again AB. I can't wait to view the eye-tingling results!
I often use a 600mm ED-IF on my XL2 DV camera and that translates into a 4,800mm extreme super telephoto lens in 35mm SLR equivalent...my mega-sized tripod and tremor handling techniques need to be taken to the extreme...and no way that my single-leg monopod could cope.3. Maybe it's a UK thing but several seemingly good LX's have gone for £160, they certainly went for over £200 some time back. I was watching a NEW LX with winder FA AND FE finders a few days ago. It went for £367. It would have gone for £500 or so a while back.
I was away with the big band that I sing with last weekend and decided to take my camera gear (I used to take it frequently but for the last year or so have felt uninspired. I took two LX's with winders and the mighty 400 2.8, my plan being to photograph the female singer. This setup excels at this kind of low light stuff. The beast was mounted on a monopod, the film (remember that!) was Fuji 1600, the lens wide open and 250 on the shutter. The viewfinder image was delicious, a top-of-the-range experience. Bright, big, clear viewfinder and a razor sharp fast lens that really pulls the subject in. The only downside is the massive weight and the slow cautious procedure that is required to maneuver the weighty combination (the fear of the apparatus crashing to the floor and damage to the enormous front element is ever present) but get her in position and balanced on the 'pod and you can really concentrate, eye tingling.
Well I hope the results live up to the experience. I have to wait a week for the prints to drop through the letter box. Remember waiting!!!

I have watched the ebay LX listings and disagree that prices have dropped. If anything, increased, as my friend outlines below: according to quality. What also stands out is the lack of wisdom some listers have maintained by starting prices of USD 399.00. A very good condition body may get there, or above, but the ethos and pathos of ebay require that one begin even a very fine camera at $50 or so, then let the bidding drive it up. Also, as my friend notes, junk or worn out units simply are not purchased for much, if at all. We have discerning purchasers on ebay, and may as well accept that reality when listing equipment as up for sale.
I plan to search the A lenses mentioned, for they are indeed generally excellent in construction and imaging, but, the intrigue of owning say a Pentax DA HSM telephoto ghostless coated zoom lens for the K10D has equal appeal for current uses. Editing digitally has, for years, in medium format, been a smoother work flow than editing film, for later scanning. Even so, Velvia 50II maintains outdoor shooting appeal currently. When I can purchase a 14MP DA sensor size body for the same price as the K10D, A glass will completely lose its present appeal for me. --Jay5. From : Jay (firstname.lastname@example.org)

AB, there are darn few quality LXs turning up on eBay here in the US lately. Average used condition ones ("I dunno about sticky mirror, worked okay last time I used it, sometime last year) are not going for silly-season prices, but the very few mint and Pentax-services ones coming up are still going quite strong, especially if the auction ends on a Sat/Sunday afternoon or evening.
Anybody else noticed the strong surge in fine vintage A-series MF and excellent A* glass, seemingly coinciding with all the K10D buzz?

Hmm! Just looked on eBay, LX prices are much lower that when I last looked some months ago. Maybe the old girl is on her way out. . . . K10D looks good but I'm still waiting.

Growing reentry of the Pentax line into mainstream photography technical relevance is at hand. Sigma has announced intentions to produce the 70-200 f2.8 HSM AP DG in the Pentax mount. Likely too will be the revered 100-300mm f4 and two wide aperture wide angle zooms. My old objections to their lens coatings are now history, as they tackled that problem in the past few years.
With the merger of Hoya and Pentax, Tokina will release in the DA mount only a few efforts non-duplicted from the partially codeveloped Pentax lens line...what should emerge now are very interesting high speed and high tech lenses from all the lens leaders joining Tamron's recent great efforts for the Pentax mount. Add to this the K mount evolution lenses one already has and the arsenal will be overwhelming. --Jay10.
