Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Pentax LX - Message Board/Guestbook

Industry wide indications and ceasing film body development by Pentax altogether in early 2003 more than suggest the manual focus Pentax LX will not be having an upgrade (except, perhaps for very rare Limited Edition Models hand assembled by special commission by the new HoyaPentax Corporation). In 2008 Pentax became a division of Hoya Corporation, which had together with Pentax released jointly developed professional grade optics (since 2005); Pentax has shifted its attention to development of auto focus Digital SLRs having build qualities constructed for the long run--now with weather seals--like the LX. You may use this site for common support and sharing of mutual users knowledge or experiences among yourselves. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the advanced users Pentax SLR cameras from the LX forward, including many such auto focus film cameras, and Pentax digital SLR cameras. We keep the site going too for the WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here as to its magnificent K mount system user archives: as have been shared here for many years. Have an inquiry related to Pentax gear? First try KEYING IN YOUR KEY WORD(S) for a preexisting archived response on your subject of inquiry from this LX site. If your inquiry or sharing is from advanced users K10D, K20D, or K200D SLR needs, proceed on to t NEW PENTAX ADVANCED USERS K10D, K20D SLR site.

This LX site was specifically created for the great Pentax LX SLR camera model(s), and now has incorporated increased opportunity for an expanded interchange with the introductions of the Pentax K10D, K20D, and K200D SLRs to include advanced and professional digital user models. Interchange is encouraged with the intention to continue as a forum for advanced system users of past K-mount film based SLR systems and the mentioned Pentax DSLRs. With decreasing forum traffic here, and enthusiasts moving on with SLR digital imaging products futures, we hope the continued convenience of this site and its past Pentax advanced LX users data archives--provided by the database KEY WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here--can be very useful to you. Most past site user techniques, systems components, and lenses of Pentax advanced applications--as have been past examined by users on this site--are still of use regarding the newest Pentax SLRs. Please don't mail us with other than constructive suggestions or to rectify mistakes found within this site, thank you. Since this is a non-profitable resource site, maintained by professional and advanced system users, the developer of this site reserves the rights to censor or delete any inappropriate, unrelated, misleading or excessively hostile messages posted herein. If your intention is to dispose of your Pentax cameras or its accompanying accessories and/or you are looking for a used model, or even for any of its system components: please use a separate section with a higher volume of related traffic for these purposes: on the
Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia sites sponsor has no Guestbook standing on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience of visiting our site and its service, you may use the MIR's Guestbook found at another new window by clicking on the Guestbook Link.

Good news, LX mint bocies, without lens or viewfinder, are currently selling for over $700.00 on ebay. Is it collector value, or the belief in film, and a great camera which have held value into the digital rendering age? --Jay

There seems to be an influx of quality, even mint, LX bodies and accessories to the e-bay auction site at this time. Prices for such are slightly less than they were when new. I saw recently too two bodies of earlier vintage than the last issues in Asia, of 1998-2000, claimed as new camera sales offerings on the same souce outlet. It may be that preparation for the next digital body professional offering in small format by Pentax is in the minds of some who were holding these units. --Jay

The "a" always comes before "e" in this case, Jay....Ha Ha! Sorry for the slip of my finger across the keyboard during the excited rush of blood to my head, in the vain hope for a pair of rare LX's being sent in the post from Japan HQ...

Tony, Do you mean "excepting" the free LX, or "accepting" one? This seems key to your goal. --jay

Wow! Good news Jim!

Maybe you could ask them kindly, on my behalf...because I despesperately need a new Pentax LX 2000 to bayonet onto one of my lonely A* lenses...If they could send me one from their collection, I'd be more than grateful. If Pentax Japan can't do that, then I don't mind excepting the LX Titanium model instead...

Om March 10 I posted the foloowing message:

"When my LX was at the Pentax US service center recently for a CLA (sticky mirror) they managed to misplace my Grip B (the contoured black plastic one). I've searched high and low to find a replacement but All I have come across is the Grip A (wood, for custom contouring). Can anyone in this forum point me in the right direction for the Grip B? Many thanks!"

I received the good news today that a friend in Japan had approached Pentax-Japan with my problem and they graciously offered to send me a Grip B from their exhibition collection. What a great example of customer support from Pentax!

Regards, Jim

So, although the standard is now 21MP for medium format, Pentax has announced its entry to be unveiled in a day or so, as long on the heels of Hasselblad, Mamiya, and others offering digital 645 or 6X6 autofocus medium format bodies and backs. This was the inevitable first Pentax pro digital model, necessarily following the popularity of their 645 system to date. Recall that Bronica and Contax have died, so it was time to keep in the heat of others’ offerings to stay alive as a system. Pentax has led 645 sales for a season, now redefined as a digital one.

As Globetrotter mentions: we long for the small format professional body, with old lens compatibility. The design team is active. Yes, it will come next. --Jay

News: Pentax are bringing out a new 645 digital 18.6mp camera. View here for some more details:

It looks like Pentax still have some cracking cameras up thier sleeves. I'm also looking forward to seeing what they can offer in the 35mm DSLR range in the near future...

Hi, I went from K64 to Velvia 50 about the time most made the shift. The only loss was the permanency of the image: 10X greater than any E6 emulsion. I'd like to have both worlds. Any way to force Kodak or Fuji--even though transparency sales are off 60% over 10 years back? --jay
